Marshmallow is my spirit animal today. A couple cups of coffee in, still grumpy, and just not having it!

This beautiful girl is a French angora rabbit and this was her first time shearing. For her first time she did great but sometimes it can take a little more hand holding while they get used to the process. She definitely gave me lots of side eye and a ceremonial thump of defiance once I put her back in her home. 😅🐰

It’s fall shearing time for our Angora rabbits. I like to shear them before it gets too cold so they have plenty of time to grow a nice layer of wool before winter.

One question I’m often asked is, “How do you know when to shear or pluck an Angora rabbit?” The answer is: it depends!

If you have an Angora that doesn’t naturally shed its coat, you get to decide how long you want the wool to grow before shearing. Just keep in mind that the longer the coat gets, the more grooming and maintenance it requires.

If your rabbit’s fiber molts and can be plucked, the timing depends on when the coat naturally begins to release.
