Owners Debby and Jessee started making wine in their basement in 2009 using a colander and potato masher to crush their first grapes. The vineyard expansion was completed in 2016. JBR Vineyards became a Virginia Farm Winery in 2014 and a production facility was completed in 2017. At their world-class facility in Giles County, they make wines from two classic varieties rarely grown in Virginia – Riesling and Pinot Noir. Both are considered to be among the world’s premier wine grape varieties. Winemaker Jessee Ring is certified by the University of California, Davis, a world-renowned course. We at JBR devote all our time, energy, and attention to growing the best grapes we can and making the best wine we can. The Riesling grape originated in Mosel, Germany, and we make it in the traditional style which complicates the wine making process considerably. That means it is a lower alcohol wine containing some residual sugar. The sugar is balanced by the high acidity of the Riesling grape resulting in a truly remarkable taste experience. Pinot Noir is the grape of Burgundy fame. At JBR Vineyards, it produces a robust, dry red wine with hints of cherry flavors. The local terroir gives it a unique character.
