Happy National Dog day to our favorite Marigold.

Protector and chaser of the ducks. Destroyer of flowers. Finder of all sticks and dead mice. Ultimate terrorizer the barn cats.

But she’s cute and loves deep. So happy you are ours.

This time of year things get MESSY.

Why?

1. We only harvest and save perfect blooms. Missed harvest window… trash. Imperfections… trash. Bug damage…. Trash.

2. Deadheading. The blooms that are trash (aka burn pile blooms)… are taking energy away from the plant that could be used to fuel new, better blooms.

Oddly enough, it can be pretty therapeutic this time of year to just snip and trash. Burn out is real and this does actually help. It might be the muttering of choice words as I chop heads off that make feel a bit better also.
