A huge THANK YOU to everyone who came out to our yard sale, donated items, shopped, shared our posts, or simply stopped by to support us. 💛

Every dollar raised helps Adventure Ahead Farm Fowl Rescue provide food, hay, bedding, shelter, and daily care for the birds who call our sanctuary home.

We are so grateful for the people in our community who continue to show up for these animals. Whether you bought a little $2 packet of our homegrown sunflower seeds or filled your vehicle with yard-sale treasures, you helped our rescue. 🌻🐥🦆🐓

🐔 DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR EGG LABEL REALLY MEANS? 🥚

Cage-free, free-range, organic, pasture-raised… they can sound pretty similar, but they don’t all mean the same thing.

For example, “cage-free” doesn’t necessarily mean chickens spend their days outside in the sunshine. It generally means the hens aren’t kept in cages—they may still live entirely indoors.

🌿 Pasture-raised generally describes hens with regular access to outdoor pasture, but unlike USDA Organic, “pasture-raised” does not have one universal federal standard on its own.

🌱 Organic is primarily a USDA-regulated production standard covering things like organic feed and required outdoor access—it doesn't automatically mean the birds spend their lives roaming a grassy pasture.

☀️ Free-range requires outdoor access under USDA-regulated labeling, but the amount and quality of that outdoor space can vary.

Knowing the difference helps us make more informed choices—and reminds us that the picture we imagine from a label may not always match the way the birds actually live.

At Adventure Ahead Farm Fowl Rescue, education is part of our mission. The more we understand farm fowl, the better choices we can make for them. ❤️

🌻 OUR FEED & HAY SUPPLIES NEED A LITTLE HELP! 🌻

With so many mouths (and beaks!) to feed, we are currently in need of feed and hay donations at Adventure Ahead Farm Fowl Rescue. ❤️

Every bag, bale, and donation helps us stretch our rescue dollars further and continue providing lifelong care for the animals who call Adventure Ahead home.

Donations can be dropped off at our Field Office 18837 St Rt 9 Pekin IL. 61554. . If you have feed or clean, dry, mold-free hay you would like to donate, we would be incredibly grateful.

You don't have to make a huge donation to make a difference. One bag of feed or one bale of hay helps. 🌾

Thank you to everyone who continues to support our little rescue and the animals who depend on us.

🍂 BEFORE WINTER ARRIVES… PLEASE DON’T DUMP THEM. ❤️

Every fall, rescues see the same thing happen.

Winter is coming. People are downsizing their flocks, moving, realizing they have more animals than they can care for, or simply deciding they don’t want to carry the expense through another winter.

Please don’t abandon a domestic animal and hope it will survive.

Adventure Ahead Farm Fowl Rescue is currently accepting a limited number of rescues as space and resources allow.

🐔 Chickens — NO ROOSTERS
🦆 Ducks
🪿 Geese
🦃 Turkeys
🐦 Quail, pheasant & partridge
🦚 Peafowl
🌿 Rhea, emu & ostrich
🐐 Select compatible farm animals may also be considered.

Every intake is evaluated individually because our commitment isn’t simply finding a place for an animal today—it’s making sure we can provide appropriate care for the rest of its life.

🐓 NEED TO REHOME A ROOSTER?
Please contact O'Huna Farms in Manito, Illinois regarding rooster rehoming. We are not accepting roosters at this time.

🍁 AND WHILE YOU’RE HERE… BRING US YOUR YARD SALE STUFF!

If you’re coming to surrender an animal, you can help the animals already here at the same time. ❤️

We’re collecting clean, usable donated items for our Fall Yard Sale at the end of September.

This will kick off our first fundraising drive of the year, and we have an important goal:

Help us stock up on FOOD & BEDDING for WINTER. 🌾❄️

So clean out those closets, garages, sheds and basements! If you have good items you no longer need, instead of throwing them away, donate them to the rescue and let them help feed an animal this winter.

🐥 One donation can help twice:
Give an animal a safe place to land—and bring a yard-sale donation that helps provide for their winter care.

🦃 7 Things You Didn’t Know About Turkeys

When most people think of turkeys, they think of Thanksgiving, gobbling, or a big bird wandering around a farm. But there is so much more to them. ❤️

Turkeys are intelligent, social, expressive animals. They recognize familiar individuals, communicate with an entire vocabulary of sounds, form relationships within their flock, and even show their emotions through changes in the color of their head and neck.

And yes—some can fly! 😄

The more we learn about the animals in our care, the better we understand what they’re trying to tell us and the better caregivers we become.

At Adventure Ahead Farm Fowl Rescue, education is an important part of our mission because these animals deserve to be known as more than livestock.

They are individuals.
They communicate.
They form bonds.
They feel.
And they deserve compassion. ❤️

The more we understand them, the better we can care for them.
