Probably the last bass on topwater for the year. Time to transition into Winter patterns. Bass in the cold season will seek deeper structure and habitat on cold dreary days and shallow hard cover near deep water on warm, sunny days. Weather trends are very important this time of year. A warming weather pattern over 4 or 5 days will push fish up in shallower water, even in the dead of Winter and a cooling pattern will push them deeper. January and February are your best bet for the biggest fish of year! Good luck and tight lines!!

Keeping tabs on bluegill is very important when you're trying to grow big bass. One strategy is keeping relative weight records. This will give you a good overall picture of the forage fish population. Relative weight is the correlation between the length of the fish relative to it's weight (what a fish SHOULD weigh at a certain length). Its done by percentage. This is a bluegill that is 139% bigger than what he should be are that length, very healthy!!
