Just restocked again today.
Food for thought when people ask for chokecherry jelly. This product is definitely a labor of love ❤️
I just wanted to share this from a dear friend of mine that is a math whiz.
People commonly ask "how could you charge that much for a small (8-ounce jar) of jelly? Well, since making homepicked chokecherry jelly yesterday morning, I decided to investigate my costs into this process that people believe is just "free" fruit for anyone to pick. Here are my findings based upon yesterday's endeavor.
Cost of producing Chokecherry jelly in 2024:
Sugar = approximately $.85/lb = used 6 cups = approx. $2.56
Pectin = $3.00/box (used one box)
Fruit = (you say it’s free, but did you climb the hills and get them, and did you clean and juice them? My juicer cost me well over $130).
Cheesecloth = $1.00+ per cleaning) (I need to “clear” the juice of anything that I may have missed in cleaning them)
Jelly jars = Depending on the dealer where you purchase them, now up to $1/jelly jar +
Our time = Can you really put a dollar value on our time? I think not!
I just added it up and without Joe’s and my time added into it, each jar costs me well over $3.00 to give you. I would appreciate the jars back please.
Appreciate the delicious things in the world!
