Im ready for them long summer days. It's nice to get home from 12 hour shift and still have a little bit of daylight to work with. Today I come home to 5.5tons of feed delivered from Newberry Feed. Want to give a thank you to Barukh Acres LLC for the use of the extra wagon. Safe to say mine were loaded to the brim!

I'm going to start introducing some of the different boars I currently have on the farm. This big guy is a 7/8 old-line Duroc from Hendricks Durocs. I added him to the farm a couple of years back to help improve meat quality. Along with crossbreeding him with my spot sows, it creates hyper vigor. The piglets from this crossbreeding are fast-growing and extremely hardy. I might not have a barn or fancy equipment, but investing in good-quality animals is the backbone of a successful farm. Don't go cheap and have your animals fight you on your farming journey.

Big Quinncy making his South Carolina debut.
Quinncy was the Grand Champion Spot boar at the North American Livestock Exposition. He is an Indiana native from David Ashenfelter a good friend of mine.
My son Everett and I had a wonderful trip to Kentucky it reminded me of the trips i made with my father inquiring livestock. We had amazing times with great people.
Poor Quinncy is going to be put to work. No more easy barn life. However he now has all the girlfriends he could ever want.

Everett made sure to get ahold of some warpaint to help me load pigs. He tossed extra feed in the trailer while I sorted pigs. My first group of Duroc Spot crosses is going to the market in the a.m. Can't wait to see the results. Thanks to everyone who placed an order!

My next batch of top hogs has just been moved to new ground. No problem with adjusting to single strand hot wire.
Every year I try something different, fine-tuning meat quality with carcass quality. This group of pigs is showing good signs in the right direction. However, the puzzle isn't complete and consistently changing for me.

Always expect bad weather when it's time for your animals to have babies. Thankfully, this new sow just did a fantastic job delivering her first litter of 10 piglets.
She was born on the farm last year and was able to stick around as a replacement sow. Her mother was one of the first pigs I started out with. Anytime you have animals, it's always nice to be able to carry a little history with them.
