Here's a quick run through of other vendor's offerings today in Chassell! We have lots of early greens, tasty breads and scones! Come to the Chassell Farmers Market every Wednesday from 3-6, under the big pavilion in Centennial Park, downtown Chassell!

It's Tuesday, which means it's Downtown Houghton Farmer's Market day! Come on to the pier, it's a beautiful day on the water! (Bring a sweater if you plan to linger long, our hearts are warm but the breeze off the water is a little cool. 🙂) We have lettuce, spinach, rhubarb, kale, swiss Chard, radishes, and dried herbs; the ladies were busy baking up a storm, they sent honey-oat bread, Finnish nisu, rye-dill bread, potato bread, and blueberry, raspberry, or lemon scones. There are lots of other vendors with a wide array of local goodness! Don't miss out! 😃

Some pretty colors coming to market this week! Houghton this afternoon from 3-6, Chassell on Wednesday also from 3-6, and we'll also be at the Hancock Thursday Farmer's Market on Quincy Green. The Hancock market starts at 2, and runs until 6 every Thursday, I don't know if we'll be there the whole duration of each market, but we plan to be there as well! I love multi-colored veggies- they remind me of the rainbow, and God's promise in Genesis 9, to never flood the earth with water again! 🙂

Oh these kids! Kimberly says she thinks her tongue got cut from licking on the cow block (salt/trace mineral block). I said, well, don't lick on the cow block! She says, I didn't lick on their side, they were licking on it, but I licked on the other side. Microbiome support, I guess. 😂😂

Vendors are setting up for the first Chassell Farmers Market of the 2026 summer season, which will be held Wednesdays from 3-6 until the end of September! We have almost 20 vendors so far set up for today - it's a nice day under the pavilion, come on by and support local small businesses!

First Houghton Market today, from 3-6 on the pier! Come on down, it's a beautiful day, there are over 20 vendors here, lots of variety- early produce, lots of plant starts for your gardens, bakery, pork, craft items, jams and jellies, flowers, honey, and more! The Jerseys doing a little mowing for us. This is an area I want grazed down, so it can be worked up, I'll put dry beans in here to feed the soil, and get some good dry beans for human eating. Buttercup is the older cow with the blue collar, she is bred and should freshen (give birth) in December, which will be nice, to have lots of fresh raw milk for the family. Autumn is a heifer, she is about 18 months old, soon we'll get her bred. If you're wondering, the orange thing she's wearing is an anti-suck ring. She has the habit of trying to nurse on her mom, even at her age and getting almost as big as Buttercup. It's ridiculous. The plastic ring kinda retards the process. Nose rings in humans are goofy (in my opinion which I'm entitled to), but they serve their place in cows. It's just a little plastic ring that clamps onto her nose. If she persists, I may see if there is a permanent metal one that can be put on. And next time I won't leave the calf to suck it's mom, so they don't develop that habit. 🙂

Happy quackers in a dandelion field! The dandies are in full bloom, the bees have been getting their share, so soon here we'll turn in the cows to graze over it. But today some of the resident ducks were out there doing their thing. I'm not sure if they were goozling up dandelion seeds that had blown off, or grazing on little tender grasses or clovers, or what. Earlier this spring some of the ducks were working over old cow flops, probably eating the cowpie fly larva, and other bugs and worms that were digesting the old cowpies. In working them over to get the goodies in there, the ducks help disperse the brown gold, which feeds the pasture for successive seasons. The duckies also provide protein as they do their thing- duck eggs make hardy soft-yolk eggs, or scrambled, or in baking! Go duckies!

There may be good reason Amos says Mitts is half cat. 😄The kids love the dogs, and the dogs love the kids, Mitts had fun performing for Kimberly!
