Yesterday early morning, Dandy gave birth to a beautiful little heifer calf, unassisted!. New life, seeing new little calves never gets old! This is Dandy's second time calving. Last time we almost lost her. After a hard birth she lost the baby as well as pinched her leg nerves so she couldn't stand up. We had to use hip lifts along with other contraptions and lift her multiple times a day, because a cow left to lay too long will never get up, along with milking her when we lifted her.About 4 days later, we were so tired and about had given up and then came back later to find her in a different spot laying down. She had gotten up and moved! She had a long long road, but slowly became stronger and stronger! One thing all the attention did, is it made her very friendly! She became a perfect cow in the stanchion. Now seeing her have a calf , alive and a girl and get to be a mom this time, just makes a farmer happy. Little things. But big things to a farmer .
God cares about the big and seemingly little things. This new life was such a great end to a wirlwind couple weeks. It was like just a little note from heaven going, I see, I care, even about a cow!
The past couple weeks haven't been what I would have chosen at all. But what I do know is that God was there. The Sunday right before Katie's second surgery, God just gave me a peace, and a calm, I couldn't explain. So many people have been the hands and feet and have blessed us in so many ways, but especially knowing we have so many that love and care and have our back. Thank you!
Katie is slowly getting better and better every day. It's going to take a while to fully recover. She has bursts of feeling great and then just tires out.
But the good news, her pathology report came back confirming the initial results, grade 1, benign tumor. So thankful and thanking God! We will still be following up every 3 months for a bit and watching her. Maybe once we get cooler weather, she can come to market again.
