The orange chicken has left the building… and the construction crew has arrived.

Today was the official start of construction on Gezellig Brewing Company in Pella!

Right now it’s dust, scaffolding, and a whole lot of vision. Before long, it’ll be pints, laughter, and your new favorite place to gather.

We’re excited to breathe new life into this longtime Pella landmark while creating a space where award winning beer and great people come together.

We love being on tap at the Great Iowa State Fair at Iowa Craft Beer Tent! 🎡 🍺

We started the year with a goal of serving 250 different Iowa craft beers, ciders, slushies, and sodas at the 2026 Iowa State Fair.

Well, we failed.

When the final count was complete, we discovered we didn’t just hit our goal — we passed it. We are excited to announce that we will be serving 279 unique offerings across the 119 taps under the tent this year.

That’s right — 279 different Iowa craft beers, ciders, slushies, and sodas for you to explore.

IT’S OFFICIAL!

We are incredibly excited to share that we’ve officially received our Federal Brewer’s Notice from the Alcohol and To***co Tax and Trade Bureau!

This is one of the biggest milestones on our journey to bringing Gezellig Brewing to Pella.

Thank you to everyone who has encouraged us, supported us, and believed in this dream. We’re one step closer to sharing a Liquid Hug with all of you.

Construction and the remaining state and city approvals are next…but today, we’re celebrating this milestone.

Pella… we’re getting closer. ❤️

Big step forward for Gezellig in Pella.

We officially have approval from the City of Pella for our location… which means it’s go time.

Now we’re in the waiting phase behind the scenes with federal and state licensing. And if you know anything about the federal government… you know it’s not fast.

Meanwhile, construction will soon be happening at 706 Main Street. Dust, noise, decisions, and real progress taking shape every day.

It’s been a long road to get here, and we’re not slowing down now.

Every step gets us closer to pouring that first beer.

2017.

That’s where this really started.

Before the brewery. Before the taproom. Before most people had ever heard the name Gezellig.

Just an idea and a pretty clear vision of what we wanted to build. A place where people feel comfortable the second they walk in. Where conversations last a little longer. Where community actually means something.

And from the very beginning, Pella was part of that vision.

We didn’t just want to open a brewery somewhere. We wanted to come home.

It hasn’t been quick or easy. There have been a lot of conversations, a lot of waiting, and more than a few moments where it would have been easier to walk away.

Instead, we built. We learned. We grew. We kept showing up and proving what Gezellig could be.

Through all of it, the goal never changed.

And now we’ve reached a big step.

We’ve been given the opportunity to move forward in Pella. We can begin the lengthy federal and state licensing process, and we can start construction at 706 Main Street.

We are not open yet. There is still work to do. But this is real progress, and it matters.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us, encouraged us, and believed in this along the way. You are a bigger part of this story than you probably realize.

We’re not there yet, but we’re closer than we’ve ever been.
