One of the granddaughters left a cup out by the pool. I picked it up this morning & found that a white-marked tussock moth caterpillar had discovered it before I did. I gently flipped the caterpillar over into the taller grass at the edge of the lawn. Those spiky hairs can cause skin irritation so I let a quick flick of my wrist & a little gravity do the transfer to the grass.

I was watering the school garden when this little cutie almost landed on my hand. It took me a second to catch up to it for a video. We’ve been seeing at least one hummingbird regularly. This time kindergarten & first grade were just a few feet away on the playground but the hummer was on a mission & not bothered by the sounds of enthusiastic children. What a sweet blessing!

It is currently 98 degrees with a “feels like” temperature of 107. It is also summer in South Carolina so there are days like this. I did, however, figure out why the emus’ pool has a dent in the side. They took a leisurely dip & then went back into the stable where a fan is running.

Circle of life stuff here. Mama duck had already lost one egg to the black rat snake. She wasn’t having any more of that nonsense. I let the snake go on its way, mama sat back on her nest & when I checked again a little later all was still good.
