Learning of the bald eagle’s near extinction as a kid turned them into almost mythical creatures for me. Seeing one felt like I was the luckiest kid in the world. There are nesting spots in the neighborhood and they are a common sight - but I still get the same level of excitement.

20 years ago, we purchased our first home together in Germantown, Philadelphia and invited our parents and siblings over for dinner to celebrate. When they arrived, we announced the good news -

We were getting married!
That day!
And our fathers were performing the ceremony!
(We had ordained them online without their knowledge. Hopefully that doesn’t nullify our wedding - shush!)

We went upstairs to change. My sister picked flowers from our yard. We were married in our small living room and it has been one amazing journey ever since.

3 houses in 3 states, 3 businesses, 3 kids (I’m seeing a pattern).

20 years of dreams, support, love, and commitment has taken us places we never would have expected - home renovation tv episode; news segment in Germany; awards; free trip to Thailand; and jobs from driving a taxi, to mixing with celebrities, and to supporting byproduct synergy.

The good days dwarf the bad.

I can’t imagine where the next 20 years will take us, but I’m excited to find out. Thank you for always believing in us.

- with much admiration, from the Pen to the Cob

A few years ago, I stumbled into the world of Italian mostardas. Made with mustard seed oil, it is typically served with meat (although we think it is great with cheese). It offers an awesome pairing of sweet fruit and horseradish-like heat.

Like jam, mostarda was created to preserve fruit for the winter. So different parts of Italy create different mostardas, using whatever fruits are locally abundant - and what is more abundant in Downeast Maine than wild blueberries?

This idea has been rolling around in my head and even made it onto several uncompleted to-do lists. Thankful for slower winter days and for the world’s greatest employee/kitchen fairy, Lauren, for helping to bring an idea to life.
