My first alpaca, the best alpaca…and my favorite. She was the reason I became an alpaca mom.
I visited an alpaca farm in Allegany when I was living in NY. The owner invited me to enjoy some time walking out in the main area that had a little hill overlooking a small pond. You and your herd mates were grazing down next to the pond. It was so peaceful. I quietly sat down to take some pictures. Next thing I knew you were coming up the hill towards me…just you. You stopped and sat down next to me. For the next 15 minutes we just sat there, occasionally looking at each other and then watching your herd mates. I remember how beautiful your eyes were and the sun sparkled on your black fleece. It was the most peaceful 15 minutes I’ve ever experienced. Just me and you, the birds chirping…no talking but it sure seemed like we had a conversation. After our visit you stood up, looked at me and walked back down to your herd mates. It was the most incredible experience. I bought you and 4 of your herd mates that day.
We said goodbye this afternoon and my heart is very heavy. Kind of the way we met….sun shining overhead and birds chirping while I stroked your face. A bright red cardinal even flew right over us while we waited for Dr. C to arrive.
Your herd mates are quiet in the barn this evening. I promise to give Leah and Maverick some head scratches tonight. They look just like you. Rest easy, Deli girl. I told you Daddy was waiting for you. I will miss you forever. 🩷
