We have nesting boxes.

She has other ideas. 🐔😂

Every day she flies out of the coop just to lay her egg in the middle of the yard.

Why, chicken? WHY?! 🥚

What a great first day at the Indiana County Farmers' Market! 🌱

We may not have sold out, but we met so many new people, made some new friends, and even reconnected with some old friends we haven't seen in a while. ❤️

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who stopped by our booth and supported Rooted Acres. We are so grateful for each of you!

After a busy morning, we came home, sat on the porch, enjoyed some dinner, and found this beautiful Luna moth waiting for us. 🦋 What a peaceful way to end a great day!

We can't wait to be back next Saturday! 🥚🌱

We’re excited to introduce ourselves as new members of the Indiana County Farmers' Market! We’re the family behind Rooted Acres, and tomorrow—Saturday, August 8th—will be our very first market day. 🎉

We’ll be bringing:

🥚 Farm-fresh pasture-raised eggs from hens fed a non-GMO diet
👜 Handmade repurposed feed bag totes, each one unique and made right here on our farm

We’d love for you to stop by, say hello, and help us celebrate our first market! Thank you for supporting local farmers and small family farms—it truly means so much to us. 💚 💜

See you tomorrow at the Indiana County Farmers’ Market!

Save your butter wrappers and use them to grease your baking pans instead of throwing them away. Simple, less waste, and it works every time!

Come learn with me as I tackle my first batch of homemade beef tallow!

In this video, I share:
• The difference between suet and beef trimmings
• Why I chose to wet render the first render
• Why I'm adding salt
• And just how much fat we're starting with... 25 pounds!

I'm learning to render tallow and learning to make videos, so I hope they'll get a little shorter as I go—while still being just as informative. 😊

Thanks for following along! If you've rendered tallow before, I'd love to hear your tips in the comments.

Life got busy, but I'm finally ready to share my tallow journey!

I'm learning as I go, mistakes and all. I even found mold in this batch, but I'm carrying on with the process to see what I can learn.

Watch for the first video later this evening! I hope you'll follow along. 😊

Learning something new can be intimidating... but it's also one of the best parts of farmstead g.

I've sorces some local beef fat (and some from our freezer) and now it's finally time to learn how to render it into tallow! 🙌

Before I head to the kitchen, nothing goes to waste around here—the chickens get to enjoy the leftover beef trimmings, and they are more than happy to help clean things up! 🐔🥩

This is just a little sneak peek of what's coming. Join me as I learn, make mistakes, and (hopefully!) end up with beautiful homemade tallow.

Have you ever rendered tallow before? I'd love to hear your best tips in the comments!
