With sadness in my heart I have to share that my initial plans to open a craft brewery and tap room in Penn Yan will not be coming to fruition at least any time soon. It takes more than just a guy living in California to make something like this happen in NY. As for good news I am announcing my plans to open a brewery and tap room near my home in Southern Marin County, CA. It's a big job so probably 2016 before I'm up and running as a commercial enterprise. In the meantime there is much to do and I'll be partnering with local non-profits to distribute my beer starting this Fall. A new California law in 2014 affecting home brewing makes this possible during my pre-license phase and allows me to get early exposure and experience while benefitting those animals and people in need. If you would like to continue following my journey to open a craft brewery please head on over to FogDog Brewing and give me a Like. My dog Mickey is our namesake. https://www.facebook.com/fogdogbrewingco

Psyched to learn that my Power's Out Stout took a 1st Place in the Marin County Fair Home Brewing Competition. I entered it in the Classic Dry Stout class which you can think of as the same style as Guinness. Encouraging given this was only my second batch of beer ever.

Bottling 5 gallons of Pliny The Elder (Russian River Brewing Co.) today. It's the same recipe given out freely by Vince at RRBC only I did it using my partial mash technique vs all grain. My apartment smells amazing.

Some very interesting trends going on in craft beer these days. This analyst slide shows that if your beer quality and the story are good enough, customers are more than happy to pay a premium price over and above the average $5 - $6. Makes sense to me. source: Brewers Association Webinar

Just bottled my local honey ale. It's headed in the right direction with lots of honey aroma and I don't think it's going to end up too sweet. I'll give it a month before giving it a go. Medium Amber in color. Very low IBUs (low bitterness due to no aroma or dry hops added) and ABV estimated at 5.6%.
