It was a fun day at the Healdsburg Crush w**e tasting yesterday. I feel so lucky to have two amazing W**e makers, Garry Brooks Brooks Note W**ery and Adrian Manspeaker of Joseph Jewell | Sonoma & Humboldt County W**es. We were all there pouring and sending customers to visit each other’s tables. It was a beautiful day and there were lots of fun people visiting from near and far.

Special, thanks to Brandon McGlennen for helping me pour and allowing me to wander around and taste some of the other tasty w**es.

Second Crop Harvest 🍇

We had an unusual harvest last week: our second crop of Pinot Noir.

Everyone told me it couldn’t be done, but Garry Brooks Brooks Note W**ery, ever the innovator, encouraged me to harvest an unusually abundant second crop growing on the upward lateral branches this year.

The decision was partly prompted by our unusually light primary crop earlier this season, the result of an early start to spring and poor fruit set. Apparently, those vines still really wanted to make grapes. The second crop was much larger than usual, with good-sized bunches that actually managed to ripen evenly.

Garry took a large sample to help determine the right time to pick, and it seems the timing was just right. We harvested at 23° Brix, and because there were quite a few raisins in the bunches, Garry expects the fruit to “soak up” to around 24° Brix, our target for a nice, full-bodied Pinot Noir.

Garry says the juice tastes great, so we planning to make The Cub, one of our most popular w**es with both restaurants and retail customers.

Sometimes you just have to try something new. 🍷

I spent last week at a wonderful watercolor workshop with Jan Heaton at Anderson Ranch Arts Center along with my two daughters. My goal was to develop some collateral I could use for w**e tastings and order forms. It was a great escape from this summer’s challenges of low yield and light harvests in the vineyard. 🍇

Happy National/International Pinot Noir Day! I have been in love with Pinot Noir most of my life. I may have liked 7-up more when I was 8, but now I”m 71 and I’m all in on Pinot. I feel so lucky to be growing my favorite grape and making my favorite w**e and sharing it with those I love.

Who would have thought I would have found the perfect place to grow this finicky grape and connect with two wonderful w**emakers to help me create delicious w**e? I am grateful to the universe for how I have been blessed.

It took all night to pick the grapes for rosé last night. We have a very light crop this year because the grapes didn’t pollinate properly in the spring. The good news is the crop is in, and we have delicious rosé on the way thanks to Garry and Reid Brooks Note W**ery.

Starting to feel human again after a nap with Moe, the House Panther, and a walk to the vineyard with Gerty, my faithful farm dog. Feeling lucky today. 🍀.

Our Panther Ridge Vineyard dinner was a wonderful success on Friday night. Many thanks to Chef Amber Balshaw Amber Balshaw for another spectacular meal paired with w**es from Brooks Note W**ery Joseph Jewell | Sonoma & Humboldt County W**es and Suzanne Farver, all created from the certified organic grapes grown at Panther Ridge Vineyard.

We moved our dinner inside due to the threat of smoke, but the evening turned out to be clear, so we enjoyed cocktails on the patio overlooking the Vineyard, dinner inside, and a final toast to the evening back out on the patio under the stars.
