This past week at the Mason County Fair, WV, I got to see the grandson of my FFA school farm cow, Brittany!

Our cousin Marlee placed 3rd with Connie in the 2017 Replacement Heifer Show. Marking our first Top 5 raised calf at The MCF. The Ord Family purchased her and Beau took her son this past week in the Feeder Calf Show!

I was so fortunate to receive Brittany in 2008.

Happy West Virginia Day from Wilson Family Farms!

Our legacy will forever be intertwined with the founding of West Virginia. Archibald Wilson served as a Delegate for Ritchie County at the 1st Wheeling Convention. He was the first Wilson to settle in Ritchie County in 1828.

According to family history, he was the first delegate to suggest counties be divided into districts for educational purposes. He authored the resolution, with tweaks, that made the WV Constitution. He also voted for the new states’ name to be West Virginia!

21!

Susie turns 21 today!

Did not know if Susie would make it through the winter but she did to see her 21st Birthday!

She was my first calf born on May 4th, 2005 out of my heifer, Bonnie. Bonnie was given to me by Pa Jim & Mom Sue when I first for started with cattle. Her and my other two heifers decided to inspect the fence in the summer of 2004 and she visit a bull a few hills over. Dad & Happy tracked them through the woods and found them.

Come May, we had a new calf. That summer, Bonnie had to leave the farm and Susie remained. 21 years later and here we are with a cow that’s turning grey, moving slower but still around on the hill. She went from the youngest to the oldest. From using her manure for science fair projects to the calves she put on the ground that helped pay for college, she earned her keep and right to retire on the hill. It will be a sad day when she’s gone.
