In honor of Juneteenth, we wanted to share a few books by Black authors, storytellers, cooks, and chefs - books filled with rich stories, beautiful recipes, family traditions, history, creativity, and perspective.

These are voices worth celebrating not just today, but all year long. ✨ We're proud to make room on our shelves for stories that help us learn a little more, gather a little closer, and see the world a little wider.

Hardy hibiscus understood the assignment.🌺

These beauties are known for their dinner plate-sized blooms, and the one shown here is already bigger than a hand... and she's not even done showing off yet..

Once she gets into bigger shoes with more room to grow, those blooms can get even larger!

Hardy hibiscus love Zone 9a life: full sun, rich well-draining soil, regular watering, and a little food during the growing season. They'll die back in the winter, but don't panic - they come back from the roots when it warms up.

Add them to your garden now and you'll be thanking yourself for years to come!

Did you know cantaloupe has pope-level history? 🍈

Before it became a Southern summer staple, this juicy melon traveled through ancient civilizations, European gardens, and even papal tables. Its name is believed to come from Cantalupo, Italy, where melons were grown near papal gardens centuries ago.

What we call "cantaloupe" in America is actually a type of muskmelon.

It's sweet, fragrant, and packed with vitamin C, vitamin A, beta-carotene, potassium, fiber, and plenty of water to help keep you refreshed when the Southern heat is showing off.

And here's the real magic: every cantaloupe starts as a flower, and pollinators help turn that flower into fruit. No bees, no melon magic.🐝

A ripe cantaloupe will usually tell on itself, too. Just follow that sweet, floral smell!
