June is National Pollinator Month! 🐝🌼

At D & D Honey, we’re thankful for our hardworking bees that do so much more than make delicious honey. They play a vital role in pollinating the crops and flowers we all enjoy. Here’s to celebrating these amazing little pollinators all month long! 🍯

The first picture was our very first hive 16 years ago - a Top Bar Hive. And honestly… it was an utter failure. 🐝
For the first couple of years, we lost bees because we simply didn’t know enough about beekeeping yet - varroa mites, wax moths, queen issues, and all the challenges that come with keeping healthy hives.
Eventually, we switched to the conventional hives we use today, and with time, experience, plenty of mistakes, and the help of the internet and social media, we’ve learned so much along the way.
Beekeeping definitely hasn’t always been easy, but every failure taught us something that helped us grow into the beekeepers we are today. 🍯

The bees are hard at work cleaning up the outside of the hive. 🐝 Keeping their home clean is all part of a healthy, thriving colony!
