The Flehman response.
This act of curling the lip allows horses, especially stallions, to see if females are in heat and gather social or territorial information. The curling helps them draw scents into their vomeronasal organ for an instant brain response.

Friday 5/22 Flanders Wildfire update: On 5/21 it was reported from MNDNR Division of Forestry that the fire is estimated at 1712 acres and is 100% contained.

Projected Incident Activity: DNR crews will continue to remain in the area throughout the weekend to search for and extinguish hot spots and will continue dropping hazard trees where they could impact roads and private property.

Home Visits: Crow Wing County Public Health & Emergency Management Teams have started preliminary visits to homeowners inside the former Flanders fire evacuation zone to identify needs & help assess any impact the fire may have had on residents’ homes & property.
