Such a weird year. I think some of the basswood trees might open this week. Which is early considering how cold it’s been. Some trees have little itty bitty beads on them. They probably won’t open until after the 4th of July. Usually the basswood trees in our area begin to bloom July 4-6.

Bachelor buttons. We have a couple of patches. It’s alive with bee! Makes water white honey. The bees are using it to rear brood/baby bees. The warmer it gets as the day goes on l, the louder the buzzing will get. The butterflies love it too. We have a few butterflies. Not very many. We have 2 monarchs in the whole farm. That’s it. But they’ve been busy. I see caterpillars on the milkweed.

The bees in the teaching apiary are content today. Despite someone dropping a hive yesterday at field day.

Alsike and ladino grazing clover. I clipped the middle of the field to extend the blooming period. I’ll clip the outsides when the middle section is lush and blooming again.

I thought I planted a Midwest flower mix here. Must have had a little bit of red white and blue patriotic mix I finished using up from a few years ago. Anyway it beautiful and buzzing with bees of all sorts. Come on out to the Corliss honey store and see it.
I also planted some Maximillian sunflowers in it for the monarchs when they pass through on their way south.
