Life has been coming at us in all directions lately, but I’m thankful for weekends like this. Beautiful weather and time spent with family. The guys weaned our calves this week so, it’s been noisy, but the herd is looking good. The wind let up and we finally got to burn an old pile of limbs. Plus, our planted oats are coming up nicely. Grateful for the little things that remind us of God’s goodness! 🤍

2025 was a blur! Life was busy and the farm was on autopilot for a large part of the year. We built a house on the backside of the farm and moved our oldest daughter home from college in to the house at the front of the farm. We added more sheep to our flock and some calves to our herd (of course). We produced and sold a record number of hay bales, and finished our winter planting despite the crazy weather here in Georgia. We have some exciting projects in store for 2026, and I can’t wait!

It’s that time of year when it looks like Fall but the afternoons still feel like Summer on the farm. Hay season is wrapping up and we’ve already planted most of our fields for next year’s harvest. Today, we vaccinated our fall-born calves, weaned our spring-borns, and preg-checked our mommas. It’s always nice to get a good look at each one individually and since we cut our herd by half earlier this year, it’s so much easier now! We also have some great looking wagyu steers and we’re excited to watch them grow!

Lulu FINALLY had her baby!!!! It’s a beautiful heifer calf! 😍

And just like that, our Lord heard our prayers and the storm passed! Thank you, Jesus, for your protection! 🙌🏼

Continued prayers for those who are still working this storm, those who are without power, and those who suffered losses from Hurricane Helene! Our hearts go out to you! 🙏🏼

The latest version of our Sunday Fun Day… the first calf of Fall calving was born (on the first day of Fall ☺️), we sprayed for Army Worms (again 🤨) and, watched a sweet sunset to end a beautiful weekend. It’s still hot during the day but we’ve had some cool mornings and nights hinting at the change of seasons. I do love the long days of summer but I think we’re all ready for some chili weather!

A little update on our little farm… it’s been a busy summer!

We acquired and cut more acres this year than ever before but between the drought in June and Army Worms in August, the guys are ready for a break! Our big boy, Hercules, took a trip to the Auburn Vet Clinic in July and he is officially retired. Two arthritic hips and a bad foot have earned him pasture ornament status. Sheep is still his best friend. Last month, we sold and delivered our largest lot of cattle to date (they’re close, though, on a beautiful farm just south of ours). Right now, we have a momma cow down after a traumatic birth and we’ve been slowly nursing her back to health. We’re praying she continues to fight but, she has a long road ahead. The rest of the herd is set for Spring calving. We’ll also be weaning this year’s calves in a couple weeks. That’s my least favorite thing but, the cows need a break before calving again.

This year has been busy and challenging in many ways but we’re here for it. Learning and growing every day!

Farm life is still the best life ❤️

Our calves may be getting bigger but, they’re still curious. ❤️
