🌅 THE STORY BEHIND GRASSY FLATS GRILL 🌅
Many of you have asked about the artwork on our trailer and what inspired the design, so I wanted to share the story behind Grassy Flats Grill.
Grassy Flats Grill was born from a love of family, friendship, community, and the waters that have shaped so many of my favorite memories.
After years of owning and operating Nowhere Grille, I wanted to create something that reflected not only the beauty of our area but also the people and places that mean the most to me. I wanted a place that felt like home to fishermen, scallopers, boaters, locals, and visitors who come here to experience the charm of Florida’s Nature Coast.
When it came time to design the trailer, I didn’t want just another food trailer. I wanted it to tell a story—my story.
The sunset that stretches across the trailer is a blend of two places that are incredibly meaningful to me and some of my very closest friends: Jabo and Keaton Beach. These places hold countless memories of fishing trips, boat rides, laughter, friendships, and time spent with the people we love. Both have played an important role in my life and helped shape the person I am today. Those breathtaking colors represent the beauty, memories, and traditions that keep drawing us back to the water year after year.
The fishing pier symbolizes the place where so many memories are made with family and friends. Whether it’s teaching a child how to fish, sharing stories at sunset, or simply enjoying time together, the pier represents the heart of our coastal community. The water reflects the endless adventures waiting just beyond the shoreline—days spent fishing, scalloping, boating, and making memories that last a lifetime. Around here, life revolves around the water, and that connection is woven into everything Grassy Flats Grill stands for.
As you make your way out of the channel and pass Marker 19, you know you’re headed toward adventure. For many locals and visitors alike, Marker 19 is more than just a navigational marker—it’s a symbol of anticipation, whether you’re heading out for a day of fishing, scalloping, or simply enjoying the beauty of the Gulf. It represents the excitement of leaving the dock behind and the memories waiting to be made on the water. Including Marker 19 on the trailer was my way of honoring one of the most recognizable landmarks of our coastal lifestyle and the journeys that begin there.
The “Grassy” in Grassy Flats Grill represents more than a place on the map. Around here, it’s where friends gather, stories are shared, and memories are made. It’s where fishermen talk about the one that got away, scallopers celebrate a successful day on the water, and families come together to enjoy a cold beverage, good food and great company. The grassy flats have always been a place that brings people together, and that’s exactly what I hope Grassy Flats Grill will continue to be—a welcoming gathering place for locals, visitors, old friends, and new ones alike.
One of the most meaningful pieces of the wrap is the Birdie B. The boat is named after my granddaughter, and seeing her name displayed there reminds me every day why family is so important. It represents the hope that the values of hard work, community, and love for this area will continue for generations to come.
The fisherman standing on the boat represents the lifestyle we all cherish here. Early mornings on the water, chasing fish, preparing for scallop season, and spending time with the people who matter most are all part of what makes this place so special.
The airboat displayed on the end of the trailer is a tribute to close friends whose passion for life, love of adventure, and appreciation for the outdoors have inspired so many around them. Their ability to find joy in every day, value friendships, and create lasting memories is a reminder of what truly matters. The airboat represents freedom, laughter, and the kind of life that is best lived surrounded by family, friends, and the beauty of the water.
Every image on this trailer was carefully chosen because it represents a piece of my life, my family, my friendships, and the community that I love so much. Grassy Flats Grill isn’t just about serving food—it’s about celebrating the lifestyle, traditions, and people that make Keaton Beach and Jabo such special places.
From seafood and local favorites to meals packed up for a day on the boat, or dinner in the evening our goal is to provide food that fits the lifestyle we all love while creating a place where everyone feels welcome.
Thank you for supporting local businesses, supporting our dream, and allowing us to be part of your Keaton Beach memories. We are honored to serve this community and the visitors who come here to experience the beauty of the Florida coast.
Most importantly, I want to thank God for His many blessings and guidance throughout this journey. Without God, my family, and my friends, none of this would be possible. Their love, support, encouragement, and belief in me have helped turn this dream into a reality. Grassy Flats Grill is a reflection of the people who have stood beside me, and for that I will always be grateful.
See y’all at Grassy Flats Grill.
