A Spring Update from Lake Country Gardens
To our valued friends and customers,
After much thought and consideration, we want to share with you that we will not be opening our greenhouses for the spring season this year.
We are incredibly grateful for the support and encouragement you’ve shown us this past two years. Your kindness and enthusiasm have meant more than we can fully express. However, the spring season has proven to be an especially demanding time—more than one person can reasonably manage, yet not quite enough to justify having two at home. Balancing those realities has been a challenge.
This past year also brought a number of unexpected hardships. Dustin was injured in an automobile accident this past fall (he is thankfully recovering, though the back is a slow to heal), we experienced the loss of our dahlia field, and after two consecutive years of wind damage that resulted in losing two high tunnels, continuing into a third spring season simply isn’t financially responsible at this time.
This was not an easy decision. It comes after a great deal of reflection and honest evaluation of what is sustainable for our family and our business.
Looking ahead, we are hopeful and excited about what we can do. Our plans include planting mums this summer, as well as focusing on labeling, moving, and offering our beautiful daylilies. We’ll also be growing tomatoes and cut flowers—so keep an eye out for fresh produce and blooms in the months ahead!
As for next spring, we’ll have to see what the future holds. Until we are able to fully return, please know how much we miss our wonderful customers and the joy of sharing our flowers with you.
With sincere appreciation,
Jan & Dustin Garner
