Food for thought
The breeder and the breeders goals are important !!
It costs less to feed a well bred excellent production animal than it does a cheap one !!
Feed quality over quantity equals efficiency energy saving and is even a green approach if you’re mindful of such things.
Don’t skimp on salts minerals and supplements it will cost you in the end !!
Education education education!! Educate yourself get some knowledgeable friends in the industry and gleen every bit of experience filled knowledge they’re willing to share with you. Now I will explain previous thoughts.
****The breeder and breeder goals are important to you because you need to know what genetic traits they are focusing on what breed trait improvements they have made ask about parasite resistance, mother ability, production standards for they’re herd, hardiness, structure, and overall herd health and maintenance. MOST IMPORTANTLY ask about their availability to YOU in the future!!! And don’t forget about testing if they can’t produce the lab results paper in hand WALK AWAY !!!
**** It costs less to feed a well bred excellent producer than it does a cheap one. While your initial investment may run you a few shiny coins more the return will be 10fold the production of not only high quality but also higher quantity milk but in offspring that are sought after by others. No one will seek to purchase offspring from a poorly bred poorly producing animal that’s just a fact !!
**** Feed quality over quantity purchase quality feed I generally recommend you talk to your breeder and use what they suggest they’ve been doing this a long time and have likely trial and errored and you don’t have to. It’s actually less expensive to feed good feed because you feed much less of it this also equates some efficiency and doesn’t promote waste less waste of feed means less feed needing produced and less animal waste as well making it a greener approach overall. Parasite control plays a role in this as well an animal riddled with parasites is losing a lot of feed and energy to support the life suckers so keep it clean and run fecals minimally every 4 months!!
**** Don’t skimp on salts minerals and supplements while some of these can be a touch expensive they’re worth their weight in gold !!! They’re essential for feed conversion production of milk and offspring and overall herd health !!! This is not the place to reduce cost by skimping it will cost you everything in the end if you do, because lack of these essentials can cost your goat their life cause miscarriages and birth deformities !!!
