"USMARC just released new research regarding breed-specific heterosis for growth and carcass traits in 18 United States cattle breeds, and Gelbvieh-sired females were the only Bos ta**us females with a maternal weaning weight advantage. The data revealed that Gelbvieh-influenced females had a maternal weaning weight advantage of 22.7 pounds."

Labor Day weekend weaning 2026. I feel like weaning is truly the least glamorous time. Calves are stressed, cows are stressed, we are stressed 😅. Plus this year..it’s HOT and DRY!

Dr. Paul Beck at Oklahoma State had an article published this week about how it’s not the best idea to wean in this weather, but we have a few family commitments over the next few weeks that this weekend was our best and only time to get the registered herd weaned.

We weaned 84 head off of 5 pastures in two morning sessions. Since we vaccinated and weighed last weekend we just had to haul, put FerAppease on their poll and nose, and pour them before letting them in the weaning pen. I didn’t catch as much video as I wanted and there are not many clips with the tiny helpers..we were hurrying to beat the heat as much as possible! There was some time for cow scratches though. Now on to feeding and managing heat and health in the weaning pen! 🙏

BTS as we work one place with the help of the whole crew this morning! This weekend we are knocking out pre-weaning vaccinations for the registered calves. We are planning to wean next weekend over the long weekend. Next time we should probably mic up the three year old aka boss man 🧡

Carcass data from over 5,200 head of Gelbvieh and Balancer® cattle resulted in 90% USDA Prime and USDA Choice quality grades with 88% yield grades 1, 2, or 3.

The last of the long yearling bulls were delivered today to customers. Thank you to all who have purchased bulls from us! We look forward to hearing about your calf crops and are here to support you.

This is a group we have been exceptionally proud of. I like to check various stats to understand the direction our program is headed. I thought it’d be fun to share a few here.

Of the Spring 2025-born bulls:
• Two Gelbvieh bulls and one Balancer were retained for in herd use
• 25% were the result of Embryo transfer and an additional 42% out of AI sires
• 46% were purebred Gelbvieh (75% Gelbvieh or higher) and 54% Balancer
• Bulls sold to three states: Oklahoma, Missouri, and Texas
• 43% of bulls sold to repeat bull customers
• 71% sold in groups of two or more to the same buyer
