My dad always taught me that half a tank is empty. 😂

Maybe that’s why I always fill my watering cans before bed too.

There’s just something really nice about walking outside in the morning and realizing past-you already did you a favor.

Present me is always grateful.

With berry season approaching, I thought I’d answer one of the questions I keep getting lately. 🍓

If you want your berries to last longer in the fridge, don’t wash them until you’re ready to eat them.

The extra moisture helps them mold faster, so store them dry and unwashed in the fridge until you’re ready to use them.

If you’ve already washed extras and need to put them back in the fridge, dry them REALLY well first and store them with as little moisture as possible.

And if you’re freezing berries:
wash → dry completely → bag → label → freeze flat.

Future you will be very happy later. 😂

Remember those banana peels I told you not to throw away? 🍌🌱

Instead of waiting forever for them to break down in compost, I dry them completely, blend them into a powder, and add them into my garden soil.

Banana peels are loaded with potassium, which tomatoes especially love.

You can mix the powder into planting holes or sprinkle it around established plants and water it in.

And honestly? It’s way faster than waiting 7–10 business years for them to break down in compost. 😂

One of my favorite companion planting combos in the garden? 🌱🍅

Basil between tomato plants.

Not only do they grow beautifully together, but basil may help attract pollinators and help repel certain pests around your tomatoes.

And honestly… tomatoes and basil just belong together anyway. 😂

Official Obituary for Goose.
Head of Security, Chaotic Canning Co. 🤍

Today we had to say goodbye to our beloved Goose.

If you ever met her, chances are you were either personally accosted for attention or lovingly harassed until you acknowledged her existence properly. Goose never met a stranger she didn’t believe should immediately become obsessed with her. She forced hugs and gave plenty of kisses to everyone.

She had a legendary side-eye, sneezed like an old man, and possessed a smile only a mother could love.

Her favorite places were the cabins at Bear Lake and Fishlake National Forest — where she could be found rolling in dead fish before car rides home, hammock lounging with mom, staring down chipmunks, attempting to chase deer far larger than herself, and aggressively shredding any stick, branch, log, or unsuspecting piece of wood she could get her paws on.

She also deeply enjoyed sunbathing on rugs mom laid out in the yard, preferably while mom watched her bask in the joy she had found.

Goose is survived by:• Her best friend, Charlie
• Max, the kitten she lovingly raised as her own puppy
• Her lifelong nemesis, Zeppelin, the 12-year-old cat who antagonized her daily
• Her Mom, who failed repeatedly to turn her into a jogging partner but succeeded in becoming her favorite cuddle buddy
• Her dad, the love of her life and the only person capable of rubbing her ears correctly and,
The chickens she loved dancing with, out in the yard.

Her services will be private.

A lot of people in zone 6B have been asking about tonight’s temperatures, so here’s my honest take. 🌱

Personally, I’m not overly worried about hardened-off plants with this forecast.

But because the wind has been absolutely ridiculous here today, the easiest thing that actually worked for me was simple:

Buckets. 😂

I went around and covered some of the plants I’m most emotionally attached to for a little extra wind protection and peace of mind tonight.

Hopefully this helps some fellow anxious gardeners breathe a little easier. 🤍

Life has been a little extra hectic lately. 😂

Sick pets. Predator problems in the coop. Losing birds. Selling plants. Filling orders. Canning. Laundry. Trying to wrestle this monster of a yard with a body that doesn’t always cooperate.

So if your garden still isn’t fully planted yet…

trust me, I get it. 🌱

Good news? In zone 6B, you still have a little time left for most warm-weather plants. (Mid-June)

You are not behind. 🤍

Something about a perfectly round egg bite on a perfectly round English muffin just scratches my brains OCD itch. 😂

It just feels right.

These quick freezer breakfasts have honestly been saving me lately.

This is honestly my favorite stage of sauerkraut 😂

Watching the bubbles, hearing the fizz when you burp the jars, seeing how active fermentation gets… it never stops fascinating me.

I personally like mine tangier, so I usually let mine ferment closer to 3–4 weeks before moving it to the fridge, but you can absolutely start tasting it sooner to see what you like best. Just make sure everything stays tucked below the brine when you seal it back up 🌱

There’s always a huge push to plant around Mother’s Day, so these are a few little things I personally depend on every spring 🌱

Nothing fancy. Just practical things that make gardening a little easier, less intimidating, and a whole lot more manageable — especially for beginners.

From fertilizers, to eggshell powder, to saving your back with pool noodles in large containers… these are the kinds of little tricks you pick up over time that really do make a difference.
