Back in November, we did the same thing we’ve done for a decade. We gather the children and plant the first seeds of the next year- Garlic. I’ve talked about this tradition before, because I hold it so dear, but it especially feels poignant this time around.
Planting seeds is always an act of hope, an anticipation for days you’ve yet to see. But the garlic always feels more hopeful than most, having to endure through the winter storms and make it all the way to sunny June.
I usually struggle with how to show up on this platform with authenticity. It feels like everything is burning, and what’s happening on our small farm is far from important information comparatively. But I know I find small joys in seeing the other good that folks are doing in the world, and if our care for the land and neighbors brings a small piece of connection on this platform, then I suppose it’s worth it.
We started growing food because it’s community focused, and I think we need a ton of that right now. So, as we get started diving into this next season we’ll be feeding our community, calling our representatives and offering whatever support we can.
