Being a smaller producer, we are better stewards of the land than large producers.
We may have less acres but take better care of the land and cattle we raise.
I think there are a lot of larger producers that do not care about the land, all they care about is the money.
They're taking out trees and habitat for more farm ground. They take out every stitch of grass. Take out ponds. Whole ecosystems just gone and for what??? $4.00 corn?
I think its awful what they do and I wont stand for it. We need to protect our soils and our timbers at all costs. Because when there gone, there gone!
Land owners need to give an opportunity to a young person wanting to get out there and try instead of taking the highest cash rent.
Its so hard for young people to get started farming due to this issue. Let the little guys have a chance. I guarantee they take better care of your property and treat it as their own.
I also think that row crop farmers should be required to have some sort of livestock whether that be hogs, cattle, sheep or poultry. To put good things back into the soils and know a hard days work.
You want to farm but yet operate a machine that pretty much does everything for you? I dont think that's farming I think that's laziness.
Do the work! If we take care of the land the right way it will take care of us.
