Located just outside Petaluma and just over the Marin County line, this is the perfect place for a family outing. In addition to our u-pick apples and pears, we often have other farm products available as well. The u-pick season opens in mid- to late August and usually runs into October. Watch our page or website for specifics. Chileno Valley Ranch also sells whole, half and quarter beef,

and whole or half lambs. We sell only directly to families, not through a middleman. A quarter cow is about the size of 4 paper grocery bags and includes a variety of cuts. This beef is very, very lean because we only feed on grass, no corn or other fillers. The animals are humanely raised and spend their whole lives on the ranch. Please contact us directly about meat purchase. It was originally built in the 1880s, and Sally and Mike rebuilt it in the 1990s, recycling the wood right back into the new project.

Apple and Pear U Pick will open up this coming Sunday, Sept. 13th, 2026. Reservations are closed as all the family slots are full.

We will open again Sept. 20th. Reservations may be made Monday the 14th of Sept beginning at 9 A M. Go to our U-Pick page (https://www.mikeandsallygalebeefranch.com/u-pick-apples)

Apple and pear orchards this year all report a poor crop, due to two factors; not enough cold days this past winter to set fruit, and a raging disease (fireblight). Fireblight is a bacteria which enters the blossom of the fruiting tree during wet spring days. It kills the tree unless the infected branch is cut off way back on the branch. We lost trees, mostly pear trees.

I want you all to know this before coming to pick apples. There will be fewer U Pick days this year because there are fewer apples and pears.

The climate has changed drastically since we planted our trees. Variations in production also occur naturally. But the big reason for low fruit production this year is climate change. The fact that we had only one winter freeze night last year is stunning. (Each apple variety need a certain number of freezing nights, called "cold days" to set fruit. Varieties vary.)

We have added a few more activities this season to make up for fewer apples and pears available. Children may visit bunnies, horses, a show calf, Rusty and the cows and the sheep. Comfort chickens will be sold to donate to the Chileno Valley Newt Brigade. Pollinator tours are available. with an expert.

Two important announcements:

1) We received strong interest for our beef shares this season and are nearly sold out - if you'd like to put in an order, we still have some shares available.

2) We’re also excited to announce a sale on our premium grass-fed ground beef at our ranch on August 16!

This will be another one of our 'drive-thru' sales.

We have a smaller operation, but continue to offer grass-fed quarters, halves and wholes this year, and are open for orders.
The price is $4.50/lb. based on the hot or hanging weight. There are two other charges: the harvest fee and the cut and wrap. The average cost/quarter is $660 when all three expenses are totaled. Additional information, and to order, please visit

Beef prices: If you’ve noticed prices climbing, you’re not alone. We’re currently facing a perfect storm in the industry.
The U.S. cattle herd has shrunk to its lowest level since 1951. Decades of "cattle cycles" have hit a massive contraction point, and with fewer cows on the ground, supply is at a historic low.
This shortage is being squeezed further by:
Drought & Feed: Years of dry weather forced many ranchers to sell off herds, while hay costs remain near record highs.
Operating Inflation: Everything from diesel to labor now costs significantly more to maintain a single animal.
High Demand: Despite the costs, the appetite for quality American beef is at an all-time high, keeping the market extremely tight.
