Screw caps are much lighter to ship, resulting in a greatly reduced carbon footprint; and the small amount of aluminum used makes very little environmental impact and is 100% recyclable.

There's a debate among wine lovers: Are corks or screw caps better for sealing a bottle of wine. Here, we explain the pros and cons of each, plus how to decide whether a cork-sealed wine bottle or one with a screw cap is the better choice for you.

The cat's out of the bag! Who said closures had to be dull? At MALA Closures we create screwcaps that are both functional AND fun! With our closure systems there is no room for faultiness caused by TCA (2,4,6-Trichloroanisole, aka "wine taint"). Air has no chance of getting into the selected bottle of wine, with our caps. They are easy to open and offer consistency that every bottle will have the same taste, preserving freshness and aromas. Want to learn more? Contact us today!

At least 90% of New Zealand wines are closed with screw caps. The greatest misconception of caps is that they cannot be used for wines that are meant to age. This simply isn't true! It's time to "put a cork" in that myth, and advance the wine industry forward.

In New Zealand, virtually every wine in the country is bottled under screwcap, while in Spain, cork is mandated. Bottle closures can be real corks, synthetic corks, screwcaps, glass stoppers—but is one better than the others?

We are so proud to support our client and customer, Lillia Perez of RGNY Wine!

Perez was born to Mexican immigrants in Sacramento, Calif., while her father was earning his Ph.D in agronomy from University of California, Davis.

After earning her degree in hotel management at CESSA Universidad in Mexico City, she realized her favorite classes all revolved around wine. It was the passion and the science that grabbed her attention: "You can make wine very easily at home with the kits and a recipe. But for me, it’s not a recipe. It’s not like making pastries, it’s a combination of tasting and science."

Happy Women's History Month!

Dressed in a muted purple Carhartt jacket, black work pants, heavy boots and simple pearl earrings with her hair pulled back into a ponytail, Lilia Perez is perfectly suited for her job. Standing on the top rung of a slightly wobbly six-foot ladder, Perez pulls down the spout on the stainless steel....

“Anyone who knew about California wine in the mid-1970s knew that the state made exceptional wines. What it lacked was respect. The same is true for twisties today….Vintners need to stand together in their support of twisties as the best available option for ensuring the quality and consistency of their wines.” –James Laube, Wine Spectator

Natural cork is becoming more and more expensive as a resource with every passing year, and it isn’t difficult to understand why: the land on which it is grown increases with value, the labor costs are huge, and it can only be produced in certain climates and certain locations. No wonder so many wineries are considering alternatives which, for the most part, do exactly the same thing.

Corks and screw-caps, and the endless battle between the two, is an interesting case in point, and one which tells us lots about the current state of the wine industry, and where it’s likely to go in the future. Love them or hate them, screw caps are here to stay… and they’re only going to bec...

What story do you want your closure to tell? Visual storytelling is a key component to any brand: especially for wines and spirits. When we consider the history, tradition, and pride that goes into the creation of these products, we understand how branding is an important part of your visual storytelling strategy. A great story prompts a reaction and response: such as reaching out for that one show-stopping branded on the shelf over all others. Our closures make that difference!

At MALA we are here to help tell your story with the finishing details. Contact us today!
