With all the heavy rains, we've managed to get some time to get the Lost Coast Ranch ® website together! I know, modern people do that first and then go about improving their product. We're kind of old-fashioned and would rather spend time with the herd, making sure the calving is going well and the cows content. But it came to our attention that people in this area and country need positive information on doing things right by their sources of food. We need to remember what being a great nation is about - being healthy! Lost Coast Ranch ® beef was part of the BioNutrient Institute study. It revealed that we raise beef that is among the top in Omega 6 to Omega 3 ratio (a solid 1.5, meaning rich in Omega 3 fats). It revealed that our meat is over 22% protein - considered "rich" - as well as rich or good in Iron, B vitamins, Phosphorus, Zinc and a host of beneficial phenols and other compounds. Year Round Green Grass and Lots of it!

We'll be moving the herd from Moore Hill November 9, crossing the Mattole and walking down Lighthouse Road to our BLM Allotment. Sorrel and her crew, including Grand-daughter Rosa, will mount up, gather and guide them down to the river and across.

The early rains have ignited all the ranges, so if it weren't for the rising river they could stay quite a bit longer on Moore Hill. The same rains have made the BLM range vibrant and growing in the warm fall weather (about to cool down).

There are three steers ready to slaughter and up to 30 calves to wean and ship to a Wagyu X Angus market in the central valley.

Yesterday we met our newest calf - a pure bred Wagyu bull calf, the first pure bred we've had.

The herd is now in summer heaven, just up the river on bottomland pastures that have been rested since last August. Our rotation enables each large section of grazing to recover for at least 7 months which includes a rainy period. That way, the ground and the soil micro flora and fauna don't see grazing as destruction - it's a time of manure and urine revitalization for all the life underground.

We'll begin slaughtering soon. Let us know if you are ready for Humboldt's finest flavorful beef - Wagyu tender and with a high and healthy Omega 3:6 ratio of fats (as determined by the BioNutrient Institute - https://www.bionutrientinstitute.org/ - from samples we submitted for analysis).

Our wranglers on the cattle drive were all under the tutelage of Sorrel - a finer crew one could not imagine. Gentle and slow, helping the herd move the 5 miles to Greg and Margie Smith's pastures.

Bo looking after the sheep and horses. We hear coyotes every evening and into the night, but Bo and Clyde don't let them close.

Time to check out Moore Hill for stragglers after the herd passed over to the south side of the Mattole. Plenty of thatch left to decay into next year's grass. Would be great to burn off this half section, but with a broken shoulder (brief video shot of my arm in a sling), I'm lowering ambitions for the season - finish up and ship another 6 steers for OneStopHalal (https://www.facebook.com/1stophalal) or (https://onestophalal.com/) and tend to the cows who will be calving in a few months.

3 Great Pyrenees Pups from a litter of 11 Remaining to find new homes. All are male. Craigslist keeps taking down the posts about Livestock Guardian dogs for our litter of pups. I'm told it might be competitors, or might be some algorhythm thing, or people who don't like puppies (are there really such people?). So, I'm posting some photos that people have asked about.
