๐ For the Waffle Fries
๐ 1ยฝ lbs (700 g) frozen waffle fries
๐ซ 1 tbsp olive oil
๐ง ยฝ tsp salt
๐ฟ 1 tbsp chopped parsley
๐ฟ Garnish
๐ฟ 1 tbsp fresh parsley, finely chopped
๐ฉโ๐ณ Instructions
Marinate the chicken. In a large bowl, combine buttermilk, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Add the chicken and marinate for at least 1 hour (or overnight for best flavor).
Prepare the coating. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
Heat the oil. Fill a deep skillet or Dutch oven with about 2 inches of oil and heat to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC).
Coat the chicken. Remove chicken from the marinade, allowing excess to drip off. Dredge thoroughly in the flour mixture, pressing to create craggy, crispy bits.
Fry the chicken. Fry in batches for 10โ12 minutes, turning occasionally, until deep golden brown and the internal temperature reaches 165ยฐF (74ยฐC).
Bake the waffle fries. While the chicken cooks, prepare the waffle fries according to package directions, usually 425ยฐF (220ยฐC) for 20โ25 minutes, until crisp and golden.
Make the glaze. In a small saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds. Stir in honey, lemon juice, and chili flakes. Simmer for 1โ2 minutes.
Glaze the chicken. Toss the fried chicken gently in the honey garlic glaze or drizzle it over the top, matching the glossy finish shown in the photo.
Serve. Arrange the chicken alongside the waffle fries and sprinkle with parsley.
๐ก Notes & Variations
For extra crunch, double-dredge the chicken by dipping it back into the buttermilk and flour mixture before frying.
Use hot honey for a spicy-sweet version.
An air fryer can be used for the fries and even the chicken if preferred.
