Calf #3 is here! This one was a really healthy bull calf. Surprisingly his momma is doing a really good job, considering she is not the smartest heifer of the bunch... She had him cleaned up, well fed and going strong when I got to the farm this morning.

Calf #2 was born today around noon. Another nice heifer calf. So far so good, she was already up and nursing within 30 minutes and her and momma are getting things figured out.

Update: We had to pen these two up for a few days until they learned what was going on. This was her 1st calf and she was a little slow to fully adjust to having a calf to take care of, and the baby was slow to really get going and wouldn't try very hard to nurse when she needed to. Nothing a few days of being locked up together didn't fix though. They are good to go now!

As we gather today, let's all remember what this day is really about. Rabbits, candy and pretty eggs are all fine and dandy, but the main thing is He has risen. Happy Easter y'all!

Swarm catch update...
The swarm of bees that we caught yesterday is still in their new hive and working away. We'll leave them alone for about a week and let them get established before we move them into the bee yard.

I'm a little late in posting this, but we got the fence finished on the new pastures and got the breeding herd moved to new grass last weekend. This puts the cows closer to the house so we can keep a better eye on them for calving and another 3 acres of grass for our feeder steers. This ground hasn't been grazed in 5 years, the grass was awesome and the cows are loving it.

We had planned on taking it easy today for Good Friday, but when I went to check on the cows this morning we had a massive swarm of honeybees on a fence post. So, we got to work and got them caught. This swarm ended up filling an 8 frame deep box so we had to go ahead and add a medium super. First swarm of the year and biggest so far for us!

Calf update! Her and Momma are doing great. And she has a name now... Ellie Mae. If all keeps going good she will stay on the farm and be a momma cow herself in a couple of years.

Well, join us in welcoming a new life to the farm today! We had a beautiful little heifer calf born while we were all at work. She is a few days early but she is healthy, nursing and playing already. Momma is a first calf heifer and she is doing everything she's supposed to do. Looks like she is going to make an awesome cow.
