The backyard project is done.

He said he wanted a simple playset for the kids. That was back in February.

Three trips to the hardware store turned into a six-week carving marathon. The neighbors stopped by yesterday just to stare at the tail section wrapping around the trunk. It took way more lumber than we budgeted for, but the kids refuse to come inside for dinner now.

Not gonna lie it looks pretty good from the kitchen window. 🫠

One man looked at 300 frightened dogs as a hurricane moved closer, and he knew he could not leave them outside.

As Hurricane Delta moved toward Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula in 2020, an animal rescuer had a choice to make.

His shelter was full of dogs, cats, rabbits, sheep, chicks, and even a hedgehog.

But the shelter buildings were not strong enough to face the storm.

So he opened the door to his own home.

One by one, the dogs were brought inside.

Some walked in on leashes.

Some were too scared and had to be carried.

It took hours.

By the time the storm arrived, about 300 dogs were packed safely inside the house.

There were cats in one room.

Small animals were placed in another.

Sheep stayed on the patio.

The house was crowded, noisy, and messy.

It did not smell good.

But none of that mattered.

What mattered was that the animals were alive.

When the hurricane passed, every animal had survived.

That is the kind of love animals never forget.

A clean house can be fixed.

Broken furniture can be replaced.

But a life saved during a storm is something much bigger.

Sometimes heroes do not wear uniforms.

Sometimes they are just people who open their door when the world outside becomes too dangerous.
