Wine Can Surprise.💫

My fearless daughter decided to buy her somm father a bottle of wine as a holiday gift. She consulted her local wine shop, Bonde, in Cambridge, MA. And so through their collaboration I came by this wonderful surprise, a bottle of Ashes & Diamonds Blanc No. 3 - 2017.

This is special for several reasons. First, it was a gift from my daughter.😽❤️ Second, Wine Searcher shows this wine only available at Bonde, a wine shop in Cambridge Mass. And finally, the wine: this is a Bordeaux Blanc-style wine, now showing about six years of age, made from Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc grapes sourced from vineyards in – a total surprise!💥– the Oak Knoll District and Yountville in Napa Valley. Wonderfully developed, this wine paired perfectly with our summer meal.🌟

So be adventurous, let loose, and surprise somebody with an unexpected bottle of wine.✨️

This is a call to all Chateauneuf du Pape lovers. Recently sold out in the US, the Domaine de la Charbonniere Cuvee Vielles Vignes 2020 is back in stock at select retailers. For about $65, it seriously over delivers.✨️

Majority grenache from vines over 100 years old🍇, this wine is full-bodied, with concentrated dark fruits and velvety tannins. The finish goes on forever with notes of blackberry compote, raspberry liquor, chocolate, licorice and so much more. Despite how big this wine is, it is fresh and keeps its balance throughout.Tasted on day 2 the wine was even more expressive.💫

This is an under the radar gem drinking beautifully today and ideal to cellar. Get it while you can.

Happy Earth Day! And cheers🥂 to the many excellent winemakers around the world who have found that good earth stewardship is where great wine begins. 🌍

Notable examples shown here:

Italy's G. D. Vajra, in Barolo, where Giuseppe Vaira was one of the first to implement organic farming practices in 1971. 🌟

New Zealand's Greywacke, in Marlborough, which sources from Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand (SWNZ) accredited vineyards.✨

California's Tablas Creek, in Paso Robles, the first winery in the world to receive the Regenerative Organic Certified (ROC) title in 2020.💫

Really enjoying this atypical Soave Classico La Rocca from Pieropan.✨ It has a deep golden color with emerald flecks and is viscous when you swirl it. Yellow peach🍑 and apricot waft from the glass with ginger and saffron highlights. Elegant and smooth on the long finish, it has flavors of baked apple and toasted almond with saline notes.💕

This wine will pair beautifully with more complex and savory dishes, light meats, salmon, scallops and Asian cuisine.🍜

Highly recommended. 🌟

2020 Chave Saint-Joseph: concentrated, brooding dark fruit🍇, deep gamey Syrah nose with violets and plenty of earthy notes. This wine commands your attention.

Expert reviews were from barrel prior to blending, and I don't believe they could capture the power, complexity and poise of the final wine.✨

Expect this to flirt with perfection as it comes together in time, begging comparison with neighboring "La La's"🌟

🥂Celebrate their achievements and their beautiful wines!

🌟 Salute trailblazer Daphne Glorian, who was among the first winemakers to envision resurrecting Priorat's abandoned vines. 🍷

🍇Daphne's Clos Erasmus has defined the bold , powerful Priorat style and earned top accolades for almost 35 years. 💪

Toast her remarkable journey and contribution to the world of wine by savoring the exquisite Clos Erasmus, or her newer, also very special wine, Laurel.

🌿 Elisabetta Geppetti is a true pioneer in the Maremma region of Coastal Tuscany.  Inheriting control of the family farm at a young age along with  her grandfather's love of wine, she decided to forget the crops and livestock and set about to make world class wine.

And that's exactly what she did. 🎉 Celebrate her impact with her flagship Saffredi – a highly lauded Super Tuscan and a testament to her passion and dedication.

We had the pleasure of trying this 2021 Tablas Creek Patelin de Tablas Blanc for the first time. Absolutely lovely. 👍✨

Creamy and round, rich yet fresh, the nose is white peach with a touch of orange blossom and tropical fruit. The palate offers pineapple🍍, melon and lychee with a long chalky finish.

A Rhone blend, 54% Grenche Blanc, 29% Viognier, with smaller amounts of Marsanne, Roussanne, and a hint of Bourboulenc, from the 35-year Perrin/Haas partnership in the limestone-rich Adelaida District west of Paso Robles.

Cheers!
