Leaf in a Cup was born out of passion for loose-leaf teas. I’ve been a tea drinker since I was 14 years old. As a young tea drinker growing up in Russia, I was drinking only black tea, which was a tea fanning (small pieces of tea that are left over after higher grades of teas are collected to be sold) in a bag, because there were no other teas to buy. After coming to the United States, I was intro
duced to fine loose-leaf teas and after my first cup I was hooked. It is fascinating to me how teas can have so many different aromas, flavors and palates. First Flush of Darjeeling will taste totally different than a Second Flush, Spring harvest of Alishan oolong will be nothing like Fall harvest, even tea from the same bush will have distinctive flavor depending on tea master who made it. There are thousands of tea varietals and their flavor spectrum can range from very mild and delicate to deep, rich and intense. You can’t experience this with drinking low-priced “tea bags”, because it will taste the same every time you buy. During the past few years I have been studying about tea, learning its history and health benefits, taking tea tasting classes, traveling to tea expos, learning about tea as much as I can and of course doing lots of sipping. Tea is my passion, my addiction… it is my lifestyle. I cant live a day without a tea. It is hard to imagine my life without it. I start my mornings with strong cuppa of Keemun or Assam, transitioning to Gyokuro or Alishan in the afternoon and finish my day with a relaxing cup of Chamomile tea. After talking to my friends I realized that most of them knew nothing about loose-leaf teas and it gave me an urge to share my knowledge and passion, and provide the best quality tea around. I want people to understand that there is so much more than just a tea, water and a cup… There is a history, culture and an experience behind tea leaves. Happy Sipping, my friends!!! Truly Yours,
Dasha - Founder of Leaf in a Cup
