Community Cuisine

Community Cuisine We offer a weekly, local meal service with gourmet, healthy, vegan, organic food, made with LOVE! Mo

Community Cuisine is a social enterprise with the mission of building community by providing healthy food to people from all walks of life. Our two main ways to do so - one more commercially, the other more socially oriented - are intrinsically connected and rooted in one activity: to joyfully and gratefully prepare the healthiest, most delicious, local, organic food for all members of our society

. Our meal service provides this healthy food for customers who order in advance. Our Community Dinner feeds everyone who walks in the door, contributing in their chosen way, typically through money or labor exchange. Additionally, we support various initiatives, non-profits and social agencies whose values are aligned with ours: inclusiveness, fairness, environmental stewardship, health, community, and social justice. We also offer cooking classes and engage in events that further our goals to help make our city more environmentally sustainable, socially just and spiritually fulfilling. Community Cuisine’s goal is to operate a Pay-As-You-Can Café in Phoenix, that has its own location and is open at least five days a week. This Café will be economically sustainable through its meal service while offering pay-as-you-can meals to all community members on a daily basis. It will be set up as a worker- owned co-op and adhere to all the standards of a social enterprise.

The beauty of this world is unspeakable... just see how our lungs are directly related to the trees. When I open myself to the source of that beauty I am stretched in my ability to let it come in... it seems so out of reach for so many of us and yet it is our very nature. Let's have the courage and care to let it flow fully and richly between us. I believe a positive future depends on that :)

A new week and a new menu is up.

As always we are trying to give you some favorites - not guesswork this week; the most frequently ordered items will be our Pecan Pie Bars and our Lentil Loaf with Mashed Potatoes and Green Beans. Some of you will have both at one meal!

The question arises why don’t we only have favorites? There is a boring, analytical answer...

But the practical answer is what really counts: we must create a menu that is balanced in many ways.

All things change – we could cite some wise person who founded some Eastern religion to claim the truth of our experience of inevitable change. But it’s actually tofu that inspired us to deeply acknowledge this truth. Sadly, Trader Joe’s extra firm tofu is not extra firm anymore. There are many brands of firm and extra firm tofu out there. Trader Joe’s was the only one we found to actually be very firm, but now it’s not anymore! It crumbles!!! Oh, no!...

As the heat is coming we are getting ready to only serve one soup per week. So if you are a soup lover, stock up on frozen soups. This week it is the Southwest Corn and Sweet Potato Soup – loved by many of you.

We are going to make this email short and sweet – here are some highlights of the week: Green Crunchy and Sweet Salad, Enchiladas, Asian Pasta Salad, Chocolate Chili Granola Bars and more.

This week we brought back a couple of dishes we haven’t had in a while – Biryani and Savory Breakfast Muffins.

Our Biryani has a little bit of coconut milk, lots of flavors, veggies, cashews, and golden raisins. A true feast for your tastebuds. We love the smell that basmati rice spreads in the kitchen, add the Indian aromas and you have one of the many reasons we love to cook.

Savory breakfast muffins are a really nice alternative to common breakfast foods...
