There's an old farm clock blooming along your fence line right now.

The saying goes that when goldenrod opens, the first frost is about six weeks out. Old-timers trusted it enough to schedule the last hay cutting by it, and it earns its reputation honestly. Goldenrod doesn't watch the weather. It watches the length of the night, and it blooms when the nights stretch to a set point. First frosts follow the same calendar. Two clocks, one sun.

Six weeks is an average, not a promise. Northern gardens run shorter, sheltered ones longer. But ragweed gets the blame for your sneezing while goldenrod keeps the time, and only one of them is telling you to start bringing in the green tomatoes.

Check the roadside this week. When the gold shows, the countdown is on. 🍂

Calling all past, present, and future supporters of the Les Cheneaux Culinary School!

Join us for our Donor Appreciation Cocktail Hour on Monday, July 20 at 6:00 PM for an evening of mingling, hors d'oeuvres crafted by our team, and beer, wine, and signature cocktails on the deck overlooking Hessel Bay.

Spend the evening catching up with neighbors, meeting fellow supporters, and hearing updates from LCCS board members and staff about the exciting things happening at the school.

This evening is our way of saying thank you to everyone who has helped make our mission possible. Your generosity directly impacts our students and educational programs, allows us to make improvements to our facility, invest in new technology, and purchase the equipment needed to provide an exceptional hands-on culinary education.

If you've been thinking about supporting LCCS but haven't yet made a gift, we'd love to have you join us. Learn how every donor dollar is invested and the lasting difference it makes for our students and the future of the school.

We've sent invitations by both mail and email. However, because many of our supporters have seasonal or winter addresses and mail forwarding isn't always reliable, we wanted to share this invitation here as well to make sure we reach everyone. If you consider yourself a past, present, or future supporter of the Les Cheneaux Culinary School, please know that you're invited!

We hope you'll join us for a beautiful summer evening on the deck!
