The OG Homestead

The OG Homestead Homesteading mom and wife using my UT degree at last—gardens, goats, cattle, and raising our girls grounded in the dirt and dreaming big.

I sure do love these goats.

If all is well in our little world, we should have some little hooves hitting the ground in early November!

The nope rope decided to slither out after dark like it owns the place.

Snakes don’t scare me — I’ll pick one up before I’ll pick up my husband’s laundry. He’ll admit to that, too.

But if this dramatic little noodle is gonna sneak around at night, it could at least earn its keep and handle the field‑mouse crisis happening out here. I’m tired of them trying to get into my feed bags.

B says it’s technically still standing…
but this watermelon won’t be for long.

Priorities, y’all.

Hazel usually loves a good snuggle session… but this one clearly interrupted her midday nap.

She was mostly fine until Hank decided that he needed to see what the fuss was about with me sitting on the ground with Hazel.

His advance was noted and not appreciated.

The amount of time that I said I needed to unload this bale of hay was drastically underestimated.

While Hazel was thoroughly inspecting the new hay, my husband promptly decided to hang back at the fence and watch me struggle to get it out of the truck.

I’m happy to announce that he can keep mowing at his leisure, I got this covered.

Hazel and the others are happy… everyone’s happy.

There are a lot of mixed emotions about this.

I loved this boy and we gave him the best life he could have had. From endless cookies and scratchies, Blu was one spoiled steer. I doubt we’ll ever have another one as good as him but you better believe that we are going to try!

Now, it’s his turn to take care of us.

Boomer is absolutely beside himself today.

I told him this trough is for WATER now that they’re in the woods — not his personal strong‑man equipment.

He’s standing there staring at it like he’s filing a complaint with HR, trying to remember whatever cheat code he used to launch it across the pasture.

He knows it’s his… he just can’t figure out why it won’t move when he bullies it.

The drama, the betrayal, the full identity crisis — this boy is going THROUGH it.

Belle has apparently taken her babysitting job VERY seriously.
Most days she’s my gorgeous little spicy demon heifer, but the second Hamilton toddles over, she transforms into Sweet Momma Belle like she’s running a daycare out in the pasture.

Meanwhile Hamilton… bless his tiny chaotic heart… is doing his best to keep up.
But let’s be real — Belle is way too old for him right now. We’ll be having to have a chat about appropriate behavior soon.

Clearly, Hazel couldn't handle all the extra attention that Hamilton has been getting.

She, too, thought the grass was greener... and it was.

Thanks Hazel, for moving up my rotation timeline.

Hamilton is officially convinced that the best snacks are always just out of reach from the bigs.

He’s living proof that the grass really is greener on the other side!

Enjoy it while you still fit, buddy.
