She’s finally home!! Little Brown Brangus (LBB) is an ET calf raised by our good friend Zane Troxtel. We’ve liked this fancy heifer calf since she was born and are so excited to watch her mature this season!!

Heifer training camp is in session!! We’ve got eight fall heifers in development right now including a few special ladies that belong to friends of ours. We’ve got a Trail Boss from Capote Cattle, a Blueprint from CJC FARMS and a Data Bank from Somers Valley Cattle Company. I want to thank these elite programs for allowing us to care for their animals the next few months. These girls are learning what it means to be cows and a few of them will be offered at Fall Sales. We’ll try to keep photos coming!!

Big thank you to our long time friends and customers Barronessa Farming for this update. Jeff and the Strazzeri Family have used four of our donors as well as Abstract in their elite herd in Australia over the last few years and are having some great offspring. Jeff said this Abstract x 30D3 bull calf just needed his photo taken!! We can’t wait to see them mature and end up in bull sales in the future…

The Hilson Sisters are continuing their winning ways!! Duramax was Grand Champion today and Lainey won her class and then got third overall. We are so grateful to Casey, Anna, Brenna and Jessa. We know it’s gonna be another great show season!!

We wanted to thank our friend Mckayla Snow with Crooked Creek Genetics for giving us the opportunity to flush their outstanding Angus donor, SAV Blackcap May 0654. We’ve been searching for the ideal angus cow to use in our herd for a few years and have always crossed paths with SAV females. This incredible female is a full sister to SAV Crush (Marcy’s Scale Crusher x Resource). We flushed her to Business Line and Trail Boss in hopes of creating some world class UB1 daughters for our herds. We can’t wait to see the results!!

We make our calves earn their permanent ear tags. They are tagged as newborns with a small white tags and then somewhere around weaning they get their permanent replacement. Baby Windy was born on January 9th and has already passed the 500 pound mark. Even though it’s not quite weaning time, it has been decided that she will stay with 30L2 and 607L2 as future broodcows for our herd. This exciting group will be the first Abstracts that we’ve retained.

Today we welcomed some of our closest friends and best customers to the farm. Huston, Kayla and Addison (HK Farms) have purchased three show calves, three broodcows, loads of semen and embryos and they introduced us to Casey Hilson, Anna Hilson, Brenna and Jessa Hilson. As much as we appreciate the business, the friendships are irreplaceable. Today they came up with the intention of buying Baby Windy but the more we discussed long and short term plans, it was decided that Baby Windy needed to stay with us and join the other two Abstract heifers we’ve decided to hold back for future broodcows. The visit was short but we loved it. Already looking forward to seeing them again!!

We love getting these updates from Anna Hilson… Jessa has SA Duramax 263K out for his nightly work and you can absolutely see the bond these two share. Duramax went straight to their home at weaning and was in a halter immediately. He’s been shown extensively and is regularly in the winner’s circle. He will finish out his show career this year and then take over duty’s as the farm’s herdsire. We are grateful to the entire Hilson family for their friendship and continued support of our herd.

We are thrilled to share the next chapter in Abstract’s story. Lake Majestik Farms has purchased Spring Possession on him and will be joining our program, CJC FARMS and Suhn Cattle Company as his ownership team. Nic is a close personal friend and my original mentor in the seedstock business so I was honored and excited when he asked to buy this ownership stake. Abstract is currently six years old with approximately 550 registered calves and just shy of $1 million dollars in progeny sold through GENEPLUS. His EPD profile and outcross genetics have made him a force to be reckoned with and his puppy dog disposition has made him a favorite among visitors. We are confident that this move will create even more exciting progeny to join the ranks of Alliance, Ultimate, Diego and a host of exciting females who are just coming into production. Please join us in congratulating Lake Majestik as we step into this next phase of Abstract’s storied career!!

We don’t often get to see herdsires as mature bulls so I thought I’d share this photo of Streamline. He’s owned by Robert and Diana Capote of Newberry, FL. He’s a son of the iconic Business Line and out of the 416A37 donor from Suhn’s. He’s been the nature herdsire at Capote Cattle for the last couple of years and the one word I would use to describe him and his progeny is SMOOTH!! If you’ve got some cattle that need prettying up and help with docility, he would be a great choice. Personally, I think he’s an ideal candidate for Angus and UB females that could use some size and class. Give Robert a call. He loves talking good Brangus cattle!!

One of the highlights of our trip was meeting these two remarkable men-
Doctor Forrest Clore owns the property where Robert and Diana Capote keep their registered herd. Doc’s place is meticulous!! The Live Oaks, the grass, the fences and the natural water were incredible!! He also has a quick wit, lots of good jokes, a shop with every tool imaginable, a purple Martin and bluebird sanctuary and the ability to remember your name after one meeting. Robert says that he keeps an eye on all the cattle and never misses a thing. One of his hobbies is restoring old tractors. He was currently rebuilding the John Deere you see in the photo.
The next morning we met Anna Hilson’s Dad, Mr Mitchell Crawford. He’s the third generation to live on their property with his granddaughters being the fifth. We already knew Casey, Anna, Brenna and Jessa, and after meeting The Crawfords, there was no denying where their hospitality comes from. Mr Crawford also has a meticulous home and property and showed us his vintage tools, his catfish pond, his cattle, his equipment for making homemade syrup and sausage and his undeniable love for his family.
This trip was special for many reasons but these two men left a mark. The cattle business has taken me to a lot of places and introduced me to so many great people and for that I’ll always be grateful… .

We had a chance to visit the Hilson Family where Brenna and Jessa gave me a couple gifts I’ll treasure forever. They had big years with their show calves and they were awarded this beautiful pillow and clipboard. They will definitely be display pieces in my office. These two have now bought 4 show calves from me and are quietly building an incredible base for their future Seedstock business of Brangus and Brahman cattle. If you haven’t heard of the Hilson Sisters, you will soon enough…

Look at what I found in the Phillips’ catalog!! The Capote family is offering a GOOD one!! An Abstract going back to a Foundation from the 30 family… as a BONUS, she’s in calf to their great young herdsire New Heights. This one should be pretty close to a no miss!! We will be attending this Sale in person and this is one we can’t wait to see!!

These guys went into the weaning pen a week ago and have done great!! They’ll stay in this smaller pen for a few more days before heading back out to pasture in preparation for their upcoming trip to Chimney Rock Cattle Company to develop with some of the best young Brangus and Ultrablack prospects in the country!!
