Our first year with Hayden off to college gave us the opportunity to let Audrey take the halter at the Premier National Junior Dairy Show in Harrisburg, PA. Hayden still made an appearance, he was practicing for the NYS 4-H World Dairy Expo dairy judging team, but we sent him back to college Monday morning so his sister could do her thing in peace 😆

We had a great day in the PNJDS R&W show! Ms RNVW AV JumpnUp-RED-ET placed 7th in a large competitive Fall Calf class and Hay-Aud-Ay Ana Monaco-RED placed 4th in ok-sized Summer Yearling class 😀 Our goal was to be in the top half of the classes so we are super happy with our placings!

As always we have to thank our old and new friends that we shared a stall row with: the Bailey’s, Foster+, Herman and Kimball families made the weekend enjoyable 🙌 Drew Hill and James Spruce thank you for setting toplines and show day prep, and thanks to Bryce and Ryan Hamilton who got us all clipped up and were our filling consultants on show day 😆 and thank goodness for Taylor Costa and her night-watching!!

The Wyoming County Fair has come to an end…what a completely exhausting fantastic week we had…we swear to ourselves that “next year” we’re not bringing any milk cows, just like we did last year…

Our kids had a heck of a week with the ladies of Hay-Aud Aycres 🙂

Sunday brought 4-H Showmanship - both kids placed 2nd in their age classes and Hayden was 3rd overall as Honorable Mention Master Showman

On Monday the whole family gets involved with the Little Britches Dairy Show sponsored by the Wyoming County Jr Holstein club. This activity gives 60 “littles” the opportunity to show calves just like the big kids! This year Hayden acted as a judge while Audrey was one of the leads-people who walked with the calves/kids🥰

Tuesday was the 4-H breed show, our kids had a great day:
🥉 3rd place Winter Calf
🥇 1st and 🏆Reserve Junior Champion and 5th place Fall Calves
🥇 1st and pushed forward for JC and 🥈 2nd place Summer Yearlings
🥇 1st place and Honorable Mention Senior Champion Fall Yearling in Milk
🥈 2nd place Junior 2

Wednesday was the 4-H and FFA Dairy Judging contest; Hayden wasn’t able to make the full contest because he was working, so he got to give reasons for the last class to practice for State Fair 🤭 Audrey was the 4th place Jr for 4-H and placed 6th overall for FFA!

Friday was open show showmanship; Audrey placed 🥉 3rd in a competitive 13-14 yr old class and Hayden’s girlfriend Michaela placed 8th as a first time dairy showman! Hayden LOVES to work the ring during this event…he also loves to make comments to his sister while he does this which she very clearly does not love 😑

Saturday is the culmination of what we work the whole week for…the open show or what we lovingly refer to as “The Pike International”😀 Those cows that we swore last year we weren’t going to bring had themselves a day:
🥇 1st Fall Yearling in Milk
🥇 1st and Reserve Sr/Grand Champion Junior 2…both BO

The heifers also did well:
5th place Winter Calf
🥉 3rd place Fall Calf and 5th place Fall Calf
🥇 1st place Summer Yearling and HM Junior Champion AND BBO heifer of the Holstein show and 🥈 2nd place Summer Yearling pushed forward for JC

Our fair week would not be possible without the support of family and friends that are basically family…thanks to Grandma Jo and Papa Thom for keeping us fed, Kyle Van Slyke for keeping the cows we weren’t bringing fed, Alyssa Lynn for helping in the mornings and night watch duty during the open show, the Wilcox family for the moral support and entertainment, the Olin family for being the best 4-H family we could ask for and last, but certainly not least, our show bosses Bryce and Ryan Hamilton…they really do make EVERYTHING better 🥰

This week we had the pleasure of participating in a family-favorite show at the Allegany County Fair in Angelica, NY. We really enjoy this show for the fact that it’s a quick in/out in 2 days and the company in the barn is so darn entertaining…thanks to the Bailey and Hinz families 😆

The kids were even lucky enough to win Supreme Junior Champion with their Fall Calf Ms RNVIEW AV JumpnUp-RED-ET 🏆

Thank you to Becky Lyman for all of her hard work during her first go-around as Dairy Superintendent!!

This spring has been a rough one for our family, especially for Hayden, we’ve had a totaled truck, a few ER visits, two fractures in his face from a baseball and an upcoming surgery from getting kicked by a heifer earlier this spring…Hayden’s senior year certainly has been memorable 🫣

Following the theme of 2025 so far this past weekend was complete chaos, Audrey and I had the middle school Whale Watch trip, getting home Saturday at midnight and Hayden left 23 hrs before that to go on his Senior Trip…thank goodness for our show family stepping up to help us even be at the WNY Summer Showcase…Bryce and Ryan Hamilton, Alyssa Lynn and the Wilcox family thank you for making this weekend possible!

We were very happy with how we did! Results under photos.

The Wyoming County Fair is, in our opinion, one of the best local fairs for 4-H youth and the Dairy Showmanship contest at this fair is no joke! Every year approximately 100 kids show dairy making each birth-year class 10+kids. Our kids have usually done well in showmanship, but this year they both had cool, calm and collected heifers that allowed them to really do well. Audrey placed first in the 11 yr old class and then was selected as the Jr Master Showman of the 8-13 year olds when the 1st and 2nd place kids were brought back in to compete for the honor. Hayden placed first in a tough 16 yr old class and competed against his little sister and 8 other kids ages 14-18 for the honor of overall Dairy Master Showman. The three kids pushed forward are three kids that any given day are worthy of the recognition, but Hayden was selected and how cool that both he and Audrey won in the same year?!
Later in the week Hayden competed in the Supreme Master Showman contest with the Master Showmen from all of the livestock species and he was awarded the Supreme Master Showman 🏆

We are extremely proud of the sportsmanship our kids exhibit and their willingness to help others; we believe by helping others improve it also encourages our kids to continue working to improve!

Thank you Judge Laura Littrell for coming out to Pike to judge our dairy youth, it was a long day, but we appreciate the time you spent with the kids!

Thank you to the Swartz family for being the judging panel for the Supreme Master Showman contest, I have no idea how you could pick a winner from the group of 11, they all did a fantastic job 👏

12 years ago the “show bug” bit our family all because of a group of four teenagers that took an interest in our kids, fast forward to this year, two of those teenagers are now married with a little girl and that little girl got to do Little Britches with our “little” girl wearing pink boots just like her mom used to 🥰

The Allegany County Fair open show was a good warm up for our local fair in August; thank you to Mary Tripp for organizing such a nice little show! The kids took 5 heifers and a milk cow, and we were very happy with how well they placed:

Hay-Aud-Ay Alt Malibu-RED
🥇1st Jr 3 yr old
🏆Reserve Sr and Reserve Grand Champion

Hay-Aud-Ay Unix Fabulous
🥇1st Spring Yearling

Hay-Aud-Ay Warr Mohave-RED
🥉3rd Summer Yearling
(1st and 2nd were JC and RJC)

Hay-Aud-Ay Tat Dubai
🥇1st Fall calf
HM Junior Champion

Hay-Aud-Ay Warr Camille-RED
4th Winter Calf
(She didn’t get last!)

Ms RNView JumpAround-RED-ET
🥇1st Spring Calf
Pushed out for JC contention

🥇1st Jr Best 3

🥇1st Dam and Daughter

Thank you to Shaun Merrill for judging this show, he’s patient and one of the best judges for kids to interact with!

As always we could never do any of this without our support system; thanks to (mostly) Bryce, with Hayden’s assistance, for getting all the girls clipped before we left for the show. Kelly Wilcox kept the train going going for the whirlwind 36 hrs 😮‍💨We had 12 animals total in our string, there were no emotional breakdowns and no classes missed! Our little friend Cyrus Olin joined us as manual labor and night duty…what a phenomenal work ethic this kid has, he made our lives so much easier!

We say this over and over, the best part of showing cows is the people you get to show with. Congratulations to our friends in the Hinz family with their Grand Champion 5 yr old! The Hinz’s always bring the entertainment, shows are never dull when they are around, the “older”generation even offers dating advice…🤭 AND thank goodness for the Baileys, Kate is always willing to take a halter for us and for some unknown reason Bryan has not smacked Hayden down yet irregardless of how annoying he is 🫣

This weekend was a busy one! We’re so glad that the WNY Summer Showcase was moved to our home town this year because we probably would have missed it…Audrey has decided to play modified sports next year, so this was her last year of dance and her recital happened to be this weekend 🫣 Saturday we ran to Mt Morris, watched her dance and then drove mostly responsibly back to Pike with 10 minutes to spare for her to compete in showmanship. 😮‍💨 Audrey placed 2nd in her division so I think the rushing was worth it!
While Audrey went to day two of her recital (HUGE thanks to our friend TT who chauffeured her there/back and watched the whole show🙂) Hayden showed our heifers in the breed classes:
Hay-Aud-Ay Warr Camille-Red was last in her class of 9 R&W winter calves…she’s really not that pretty, but certainly is cute…we figured she would be last, but you never know!
Hay-Aud-Ay Tat Dubai was 7th fall calf in a super competitive class, we’ll see how she develops now that Hayden isn’t playing baseball every night!
Hay-Aud-Ay Warr Mohave-Red placed 2nd in her Summer Yearling class and was named BBO Heifer of the Jr R&W show, her dam Hay-Aud-Ay Alt Malibu-Red was BBO Heifer of the National Jr Holstein show at Carousel in 2022, scored 87 as a 2yo and is due in a few days…if anyone is in the market for a fancy Jr 3 😉
Hay-Aud-Ay Unix Fabulous was 4th Spring Yearling and also Jr BBO in the class
As always, we would NEVER be able to pull this off without our show family: Bryce, Ryan and new show-boss Hannah kept us in line and on task and made sure we could do it all this weekend 🥰
