May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and I wanted to share something a little more personal.

Most people see the finished products—fresh English muffins, bagels, cookies, and other baked goods—but what they don’t always see is what goes on behind the scenes.

Running Mix-Match Muffins is something I care deeply about. It is more than just a business to me; it is a dream of building something meaningful for my family and creating a better future. But with that dream also comes a lot of pressure.

I spend a lot of time questioning whether I am doing enough, whether my products are good enough, whether my displays look professional enough, and whether I am making the right decisions for the business. I compare myself to others and sometimes feel like I should be further along than I am.

This year I decided not to participate in the Orford Open Air Market. That was not an easy decision, because I was looking forward to it. But after thinking about my current workload, my production limits, and the stress I was feeling, I realized that stepping back was the right choice.

Mental health is something we do not talk about nearly enough, especially as men. We often feel like we need to keep pushing and carry everything on our own. I am learning that taking care of yourself and recognizing your limits is not a weakness. It is part of building something that can last.

I am sharing this because I know I am not the only one who feels this way. If you are working toward something important and struggling along the way, you are not alone.

We put together a little video last night showing off some of the things we offer — just a quick look at a few of the fresh baked favorites that come out of our kitchen each week.

We’ve got a busy week ahead and we’re excited to be out in the community!

This Wednesday we’ll be at 🌟 3rd Annual HCMS Community Night 🌟 with a selection of fresh baked goods — a great chance to grab something while you’re out supporting local.

Then this weekend you can find us at the Orford Open Air Market, stocked up with English muffins, bagels, and a few extras depending on what the ovens allow us to sneak in.

If you’ve been meaning to try us or just want to stock up for the week, these are two great chances to catch us in person. Everything is made fresh in small batches right here from our homestead bakery.

I need your help on this one

With some shows and markets coming up, I’ve been thinking…

I’ll have some of the usual bagels and English muffins—but I’m also thinking about bringing things you can’t normally grab in stores.

So let’s make it interesting:

Alright… these aren’t what’s heading to Hatchland today 😅

These were a special batch for my cousin Karen—she messaged Kelly saying I should try something in that Dubai chocolate pistachio flavor… so I did just that 👀

Now for the real news:

We’re making a fresh delivery to Hatchland Farm Dairy Delites today, and for the first time… cookies are on the order 🔥

You won’t find these exact ones on the shelves (Karen Byrne gets that privilege this time)…
but you will start seeing a variety of fresh baked cookies alongside the usual bagels and English muffins.

Same scratch-made, small batch baking—just a little something new added to the mix.

If you’ve been waiting to see cookies show up there… today’s the day 👀

Today didn’t exactly go to plan…

With a forest fire right near us, it would’ve been real easy to call it.
But instead—we kept the dough moving and the oven on 🔥

What came out? A batch of sourdough cinnamon rolls that might not be picture-perfect, but they’ve got that slow, natural rise, deep flavor, and soft pull-apart texture you only get when you give the dough the time it needs.

A little messy, a little wild… but honestly, so is today.

And once you dig into that gooey center, none of that matters anyway

Fresh shirts, fresh delivery, and a whole lot of gratitude today 🙌

Huge thank you to Dan & Donna at Windy Knoll Crafts & More for knocking these shirts out of the park. The quality is awesome, the design pops, and they somehow captured exactly what Mix-Match Muffins is all about. We couldn’t be happier with how they turned out.

We’ve been putting them to work already—whether it’s the kids helping out in the yard or all of us down by the river, it feels pretty special seeing the whole crew repping the bakery together.

And speaking of putting in work… we made a fresh delivery to Hatchland Farm Dairy Delites today! If you’re stopping by, keep an eye out—you’ll find our English muffins ready to go.
