I was heading to the barn to feed alpacas and noticed this new member of the herd. Freya had her cria ( baby alpaca) sometime early this morning in the pasture. The little guy was up and running. She is a first time momma and already knows what to do.

✨ Choose Your Alpaca – Shearing Day Experience ✨

Shearing Day is almost here at Thunder Mountain Acres Alpaca Farm (May 2), and this year we’re opening something special to our fiber community…

🧶 If you’re a spinner or fiber artist, you’re invited to *choose your alpaca before shearing.*

Schedule a visit to the farm, meet the herd, and take your time feeling, assessing, and selecting the fleece that speaks to you—right off the alpaca.

We have 28 alpacas, including 4 babies with incredibly soft fiber.

After shearing, your fiber will be carefully packaged and organized for you:
• **Primary (firsts):** blanket fiber from the barrel of the body—ideal for spinning
• **Secondary (seconds):** neck and rump—great for spinning, felting, and more
• Remaining fiber can be used for insulation, garden mulch, or felting

**Cost:** $45 per alpaca fleece

🎨 Natural colors include:
True Black, Bay Black, Dark Brown, Light Brown, Medium Fawn, Light Fawn, Beige, White, and a few multi-colors
(Lighter fleeces dye beautifully!)

This is a unique opportunity to connect with the animal and create something meaningful from start to finish.

📅 Visits are by appointment before May 2 (limited spots available)
📩 Message or comment to schedule

Please share with your fiber friends—we’d love to grow this circle 🦙

March 5 in the middle of the night our newest cria was born. We don’t have a name yet. Momma was showing signs of stress so we took her to UT. Veterinary College in Knoxville and they monitored momma until this little guy got here. He is a multi color: dark brown nose ears and eyes with fawn patches and a white base. He is adorable. Just need to figure out a name. Momma is Princesa. Dad is Goldstar

We have a new cria in the herd. Dream had a tiny boy on January 13--a cold morning. He gave us a scare. His front legs were bent and caught on Dream's pelvic bone so we had to assist his birth. Thank you Susan Goodwin at Foster Trails Alpaca Farm for having the neonatal class. We were able to adjust his legs and get him out safely. He was born 10.8 # the smallest we've had (was full term-340 days). Was so tiny he needed a few bottle feedings before he could figure out that momma had a milk bar for him. She was amazing and let me milk her and feed her little guy momma's milk. I was resigned to be his surrogate momma and on day 5 he figured it out! We celebrated. He is gaining and his crooked little legs are straightening out. Doubled coated and kept in the barn for days during this frigid cold, he has his zoomies on this morning. We named him Dream Weaver. Dam is H2R Dream Girl--Sire FT Goldstar. He has some great genetics! He has stolen our hearts.

Well I need to thank all of you who joined us this holiday season for the Festival at Thunder Mountain Acres. We had a wonderful season meeting everyone and sharing our farm with you. It feels quiet now without all the activities. The reindeer went back north to finish their training with Santa and we have another new member to the farm. Dream Girl had her cria (baby alpaca) on Tuesday 1/13/26. He is the first baby this year. We don't have a name yet but narrowing down some options. I'll post pictures of him shortly. Today I need to let all of you know the winning reindeer names! Congratulations to Noah Parsons for naming the boy reindeer S'more! Congratulations to Marianna Beltran for naming the girl reindeer Jubilee! I'll send an email to each and let you know when to stop by and pick up your prizes at the farm store.
