Veggeberg Family Farm has shifted its focus. We have spent several years earning a great reputation for raising purebred Fainting Goats and free range Rhode Island Red laying hens. We will now concentrate our efforts on "bees and trees." We hope to help save the world's declining bee population and, in so doing, produce local raw honey. We also plan to leverage these bees to help pollinate our growing orchard of Gala Apples, Stella Cherries, and August Prince Peaches. We will have honey for market by next summer.

Here at our farm, we've sold many, many goats to a lot of very satisfied customers. And we've seen people load and transport them in all kinds of ways. For the babies, I think the most popular way is someone holding them in their arms for the drive home. But, this picture has to take the prize!

This is our buck, Lucky, heading to his new home. Yes, that's him in the hatchback of a Subaru...and yes, that's a boy and a baby next to him. I love it! What a great picture!!

Just so everyone knows...Lucky, boy, baby, and Subaru all made it home...safe and sound.

UPDATE: All the chickens have been sold.

We have 6 Rhode Island Red egg-laying hens for sale. Rhode Island Reds are a fantastic dual-breed chicken. They give a ton of eggs. Ours give just a shade less than 1 egg a day per bird...so about 3 eggs every 4 days. Also, if you want to raise them for meat, they provide a nice, well-proportioned bird with plenty of meat.

We have been raising pure-breed, free-range chickens for 5 years now, and this is our favorite breed. I know some people think RIRs are a bit flighty and nervous...we have not seen any of that in our birds. They are very gentle. We have several that will let you pick them up and pet them. Our chickens are 100% natural. They have not had any hormones, antibiotics, or chemicals, nor have they been exposed to any diseases. We supplement their diet with feed we get from a local mill (Big Spring Mill). Our chickens are very healthy and strong.

These hens are about 2 years old and cost $15 each.

UPDATE: Lucky has been sold and wooing all the females at his new farm :)

Lucky is our last goat available for 2021.
He is a 100% Pure-Breed Fainting Goat buck that is already registered with Myotonic Goat Registry. He is a perfect 25 for 25 in doing his job as a breeding quality male and has sired 34 beautiful kids from 7 different does over 4 seasons. He was born March 27, 2017, and he has had all the proper vaccinations and care. He is very friendly and not aggressive at all....even when he is in rut.

UPDATE: ALL THE BABY GOATS ARE SOLD!!
The only goat we have available is "Lucky" - a proven breeding quality male that is already registered and with papers.

BABY GOATS ARE BOUNCING AROUND EVERYWHERE!!
We have Mama-Baby combos available now. The advantage of a mama-baby combo is that you actually get to enjoy a BABY goat while it's still a baby. Otherwise, you have to wait 8-12 weeks until the baby is weaned to take it home. Depending on genetics and coloring, the girls are $250-300, and the boys are $175-225. We will give discounts for mama-baby combos. See the pictures below and email/call me if you want to come check out the goats. We can easily practice social distancing on our farm...there's lots of space to spread out.

FAINTING GOATS MAKE THE BEST PET GOATS! HERE'S WHY:
1. Fainters are INCREDIBLY GENTLE goats and VERY FRIENDLY, so they make excellent pets. Some other breeds can be a bit aggressive, but we have never seen this in any of our goats...including our buck, even when he is in rut.
2. They are also very EASY TO KEEP FENCED IN. The only downside to having goats is that they often escape from their fenced-in area. But, that's just not true with Fainters. Because of the fainting trait, they tend to lack confidence and, therefore, don't climb fences and escape like most other breeds. Our goats have never gotten out of their pasture, and our fences are not perfect. Our perimeter fence is only 3 strands of metal wire (not electric, just regular wire)...the tallest of which is only 21 inches high! Yes, a 3-wire fence that is 21" high keeps them on our property. You probably don't believe this, but come visit our farm, and I'll show you.
3. Fainting Goats tend to be much more PARASITE RESISTANT than other breeds. We have not had any issues in our herd, and we think this is due to the good, clean living conditions we provide and the great genetics of Fainters.
4. Fainting goats are also much EASIER TO CATCH. If you've ever tried to catch a goat, then you know how challenging this can be. But, with Fainting Goats all you need to do is run after them, then they freeze up, and you can go pick them up...TOO EASY!

So, if you are looking to have a nice pet or weedeater, please contact us to come see some of our kids. Veggeberg Family Farm is a veteran-owned farm practicing sustainable agriculture in the New River Valley. We are near Pilot, Virginia...about 20 minutes south of Christiansburg.
