We try not to waste anything here. Since we don't have chickens at the moment, all of this will go to the deer. 🍐🦌🍐🦌🍐 If a fruit is in season and even better if it's local, I'll try to find ways to use it, whether it's for us or the dogs or the wildlife. Or even for you... like baking a seasonal dessert to sell at the market, such as my spiced pear puffs or paw paw bread. There's just nothing like walking with your basket or bucket to handpick something then transform it into something else.

It's hard to believe that canning such a small batch takes so much time, effort, and patience.

I was calling this spiced pears, but I guess it's more pear pie filling or pear butter (it actually tastes like apple pie to me!).

Either way, they're going to be canned today because I'm going out of town and don't want to risk the beautiful pears going bad then becoming deer snacks. I plan on making more homemade goodies out of them. This time I added some ginger root too.

Mom and I might even have enough time and energy to harvest another bucket and do this again later today. Peeling and cutting 40 pears by hand is no joke! Oof!
