As the nights get colder the growing season is coming to an end in the greenhouse. We will likely get one last big harvest of green tomatoes. Today I processed some San marzano's and cherry tomatoes into a tomato sauce with a lot of sampling from the kids. I parboiled and removed the skins from a bunch of tomatillos that will become a salsa. I started a new bucket of bokashi compost with some beef bones and stock remnants, and all the plants leftovers from our harvest processing. I also dug up my Dahlia tubers, after a bit of procrastination. I'm excited for these colder days making some sourdough bread and attempting to hibernate with my favorite people, but for now it's time for some tea and reflection on these past seasons 😁

Let the harvest begin! We made almost a whole meal from our garden. Zucchini fritters from zucchini, onions, and our eggs grown in our garden. Potatoes, we grew and salsa all from ingredients we grew. It feels so satisfying to have a plate of food we worked to make ourselves.

It's spruce tip season. A couple years ago we tried out making spruce tip syrup, but this year we are trying out spruce tip soda. The littles helped pick lots of spruce tips and took some breaks to sing and dance. It was a solid 4 cup harvest and it took us all about an hour. 🌲

So excited for these warmer, greener days. Our catmint is flowering and the eggs are abundant this time of year. This season we are trying our hand at bees and apples. We have both honeycrisp and Granny Smith that we hope to be able to share with our family and friends. We planted a garden bed of flowers bees love and we are deciding where our apple trees will go 🤞 we are so happy to have the opportunity to steward our own bee hive. It'll be a fun learning journey for our family.

🥚 Eggs are for sale again! $6 a dozen and $11 for 2 dozen. 🥚

We mix and ferment our own feed as a labor of love and for easier digestion for our birds. We have been so fortunate to source our feed ingredients cheaper this year, as we were on the look out for a new supplier and found one! Our chickens have lots of space to roam and forge as nature intended. 😊

Picture of our new chicks for fun. 🐥

We roasted a bunch of carrots from the garden a couple days ago. Today I used the left overs to make a "Rocky Mountain roasted carrot soup" it was a good opportunity to use some whole nutmeg, I grated it as a topping, and for Lyanna to press nugmeg on her forehead I guess 😆

We made some fire cider today with Debeeze Honey. More of our new pullets have started laying eggs. We carved pumpkins and roasted the seeds. So excited for the holidays with the littles.
