Freeze season is almost here in the Sandhills. A quick checklist before the first hard night:

• Disconnect and drain garden hoses
• Cover outdoor faucets
• Insulate pipes in the crawlspace and along outside walls
• Drain or cover your irrigation backflow. It sits above ground all winter, and one hard freeze can crack it.
• Find your main water shutoff now, not while a pipe is spraying

Rather have it handled? My Winter-Ready Home Check covers all of it: crawlspace pipes checked, hose bibs covered, irrigation backflow drained, and your main shutoff tested and tagged so anyone in the house can find it fast. Flat-rate pricing, and you approve the price before any work starts.

I’m a one-man shop, so spots each week are limited. Send me a message and I’ll get you on the schedule, or call (910) 384-4460.

Ever wondered what’s actually inside a whole-house water filter?

This is coconut-shell activated carbon being loaded into an upflow whole-house filtration system.

Carbon like this is commonly used on city water to help reduce chlorine, unwanted tastes and odors, and certain organic compounds before the water reaches the faucets and showers throughout the home.

One thing I try to explain to homeowners is that water treatment shouldn’t be one-size-fits-all. Carbon is excellent for certain problems, but it doesn’t soften hard water or solve every water-quality issue. The right system starts with understanding what’s actually in your water.

That’s why I offer water testing and design filtration around the home and the water—not just whatever filter happens to be on the shelf.

If you’re curious about your water, dealing with taste, odor, staining, chlorine, hardness, iron or other water-quality concerns, feel free to reach out.

I was in Whispering Pines installing a new reverse osmosis drinking-water system for a homeowner.

This installation also required drilling through the granite countertop for the dedicated filtered-water faucet!

Before filtration, the home's water was reading over 150 ppm TDS.

After the reverse osmosis system, the meter was reading 0 ppm.

TDS isn't the only measurement that matters when evaluating water quality, but it is a useful way to demonstrate just how effectively an RO can reduce dissolved minerals and other dissolved material in the water.

I'm continuing to build the water-treatment side of On Point Plumbing and Filtration, including:

• Reverse osmosis systems
• Whole-house filtration
• Water softeners
• Iron treatment
• pH correction
• Water testing
• Well-water troubleshooting

If you're in Whispering Pines, Pinehurst, Southern Pines, Aberdeen or the surrounding Sandhills and you're curious about what's actually in your water, feel free to reach out.

Before spending $4,000 on a new water main, make sure the water main is actually the problem.

I was called to a home in Rockingham, NC because the homeowner was dealing with poor water pressure and noticeably reduced water volume.

Another company had already looked at the issue and recommended replacing the home's main water line for roughly $4,000.

Rather than jumping straight into a major replacement, I wanted to prove where the restriction actually was.

We started by checking pressure at the nearest hose connection. Static pressure was around 45 PSI, but once water was flowing, the pressure and volume dropped noticeably.

From there I:

• Dug behind the meter looking for a buried PRV
• Checked under the home for another pressure regulator
• Replaced an older gate-style main shutoff with a full-port quarter-turn valve
• Retested the system
• Isolated the home's main line
• Installed a test connection immediately after the meter

The final test produced the same pressure/flow issue right at the meter, which told us the restriction wasn't being created somewhere farther down the homeowner's main line.

Instead of immediately replacing thousands of dollars worth of piping, the homeowner now has good diagnostic information to take to the water provider first.

Plumbing isn't always about replacing something.

Sometimes the most valuable thing a plumber can do is figure out what you don't need to replace.

That's how I want to run On Point Plumbing and Filtration.

Diagnose the problem. Explain the options. Fix what actually needs fixing.

Drilling a hole in a brand-new granite countertop will get your attention pretty quickly. 😅

Recently I was in Seven Lakes, NC installing a customer-supplied Cloud reverse osmosis system.

The homeowner already had the RO equipment, but the installation still required quite a bit more than simply hooking up a few tubes.

I drilled the granite countertop for the dedicated RO drinking-water faucet, installed and secured the faucet, connected the system to the cold-water supply, and tied the RO discharge into the sink drain on the proper side of the P-trap.

Everything was installed, checked, and finished with a clean look at the kitchen sink.

One thing I’m continuing to focus on with On Point Plumbing and Filtration is helping homeowners with water-quality solutions—not just traditional plumbing repairs. Reverse osmosis can be a great option for homeowners who want dedicated filtered drinking water right at the kitchen sink.

And yes—if you already purchased your own filtration equipment and just need it installed correctly, that’s something I can help with too.

If you’re in Seven Lakes, Pinehurst, Southern Pines, Aberdeen, or the surrounding Sandhills and have questions about reverse osmosis, whole-house filtration, water softeners, iron removal, or well-water treatment, feel free to reach out.

Sometimes the hardest plumbing jobs are the ones nobody ever sees!

Spent a good part of today underneath a home in Laurinburg, NC replacing water lines throughout the crawlspace.

Not exactly the glamorous side of plumbing. 😅

Tight spaces, old construction, insulation, ductwork, dirt — and plenty of crawling.

But a few hours later, the new water lines were installed, secured, tested, and the homeowner was back up and running.

This was also a referral, which means a lot to me.

As I'm building On Point Plumbing and Filtration, every time somebody gives my name to a friend or family member, they're putting their own reputation behind my work. I don't take that lightly.

Whether it's just a simple service call or spending half the day underneath a house replacing water lines, the goal stays the same:

Figure out the problem. Explain it clearly. Do the work right.

If you have older water lines, leaks under the house, pressure problems, or plumbing that's simply reaching the end of its life, give us a call.

Most plumbers probably don’t start with a four-year degree in sports medicine and roughly a decade working in healthcare. I did.

My name is Phillip Williams, and I’m the owner and plumber behind On Point Plumbing and Filtration.

I was born and raised in Scotland County, North Carolina, played college baseball, earned a four-year degree in Athletic Training, and then spent almost a decade as a Facility Director of a medical fitness center.

So how did I end up becoming a plumber?

The more time I spent around healthcare, the more I came to appreciate something most of us rarely think about:

Clean water!

Reliable plumbing is a huge part of keeping families and communities healthy.

That eventually led me into the trades, and I found something I genuinely loved.

Plumbing combines problem-solving, working with my hands, helping people, and the precision I enjoy. Today, I’m a licensed North Carolina plumber and certified backflow specialist, and I get to bring all of those experiences together while serving homeowners in our area.

I started On Point Plumbing because I wanted to build the kind of plumbing company I would want working in my own home.

That means:

- Showing up when I say I will
- Taking the time to diagnose the actual problem
- Explaining your options clearly
- Treating your home with respect
- Doing work I’m comfortable putting my name behind

And if you’re wondering about the dog…

That’s Aggie, my Vizsla and the inspiration behind the On Point logo.

Vizslas are pointers. They’re energetic, loyal, focused, and pretty determined once they're locked onto something.

That seemed like a pretty good representation of what I wanted this company to stand for.

My wife is a registered nurse, so service and taking care of people are a pretty big part of our household. On Point Plumbing is my opportunity to carry that same mentality into the plumbing trade and serve the communities that raised me.

I’m Phillip.
That’s Aggie.

And together, we’re On Point Plumbing and Filtration.

A homeowner in Whispering Pines has been renovating his home and recently had his new cabinets, countertops, and sinks installed.

There was just one problem…

None of the sinks were usable yet.

He still needed three bathroom faucets and a kitchen faucet installed, along with the water supply lines and drain connections underneath each sink.

Because it was Saturday, he was having a tough time finding someone who could get there before Monday.

He gave On Point Plumbing and Filtration a call Saturday morning, and we were able to get out there that afternoon.

We installed:

✅ 3 new vanity faucets
✅ 1 new kitchen faucet
✅ Water supply connections
✅ Drain and P-trap connections
✅ Tested everything for leaks and proper operation

We also found a few other plumbing issues while we were there and got those addressed before wrapping up.

By the time we left, the homeowner could finally start using the sinks that had been sitting there waiting to be finished.

That's one of the things I enjoy about service plumbing. Sometimes the job isn't a flooded house or a major emergency. Sometimes somebody just needs a plumber to show up, finish the job correctly, and get their home working again.
