I just want to put this out there for anyone who may be dealing with excessive delays in the transportation of live poultry. You can go above the Post Master!
I recently had a situation where chicks sat at my local distribution center nearly 48 hours! Even with EXPRESS PRIORITY and "LIVE CHICKS" all over the box and the $7.50 live chicks handling fee!
They all arrived alive, but the latest report was that 5 died. I sent them with 4 containers of grogel and it was all gone when they arrived late evening on the 3rd day. Because of this, I will be forced to drive over an HOUR away to drop chicks off at a Post Office that will send them directly to Beaumont, Tx and then to Houston, Tx for a, HOPEFULLY more efficient, means of travel!
I sent my complaint to the USPS Office of the Inspector General (OIG), regarding the Shreveport P&DC (distribution center). I don't know how much if an impact it will have, but I have to think that if everyone began forwarding their complaints to the OIG, and your STATE REPRESENTATIVES, rather than just the local Post Master, something has to change!! I will link that information below for anyone that needs it!
Mishandling of live chicks beyond the local postmaster, you can submit an official complaint to the USPS Office of the Inspector General (OIG).The OIG handles allegations of employee misconduct, mail destruction, and severe service abuses. To ensure your concern is addressed efficiently:
File Online: Submit your details directly through the USPS OIG Online Complaint Form.
Call the Hotline: Reach them by phone at 1-888-877-7644 (1-888-USPS-OIG). The hotline operates Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM Eastern Time.
Mail a Complaint: You can send your detailed report to: USPS OIG, ATTN: HOTLINE, 1735 N Lynn Street, Arlington, VA 22209.For your claim to be actionable, be prepared to provide specific tracking numbers, dates, the names of involved personnel, and a detailed description of how the chicks were mishandled. Such as sitting at a distribution center over 24 hours. Be sure to document tracking history!
You can also forward your letter to your state representative as well as :If live chicks arrive at a local post office severely abused, dead, or neglected, local police, the sheriff's department, or local Humane Law Enforcement Officers can intervene. They have the authority to respond to the scene, document evidence, and coordinate with federal postal authorities to press charges.
