History of Clover Creek Farm:
In the early 18t

h century, a man by the name of Sir Thomas Walker received permission from the Virginia Company to explore what was then the Kentucky wilderness frontier. There are no recorded accounts of any white man who set foot in Kentucky before him. As he came into the territory, he named several landmarks that are still here today. Among them are the Cumberland Mnts, Cumberland Gap, the Pinnacle, and Cumberland River. There are literally hundreds of streams that he named, but one in particular was Clover Creek, because of the beds of clover that grew on the banks. Today, however that creek is not named clover but rather, Clear Creek. In the late part of the century, Robert Mason I came to America. He enlisted in the continental army when the American Revolution broke out. After the war, the new American government decided to "pay" veterans with small pieces of land in the frontier. Robert Mason I received a grant for several hundred acres on Clear Creek, where Thomas Walker explored only a century before. Robert Mason I built a log cabin on top of a hill and began to deforest and farm the land around him. He drained swamps, logged, and farmed the land until he died. The area where the cabin used to be is now the Mason Family Cemetery. Today, the Mason Family Farm is now divided among three people, Frank Mason, Robert Mason VI, and Jane Grubbs. The upper end that belongs to Jane and Robert is called the Mason's Pumpkin Patch, and the lower end that belongs to Frank Mason is now called Clover Creek Farm.
